Help Smartphone memory and no space available

Polterry

Newbie
My phone has
1. Internal storage 0.98GB
2. SD card 14.83GB
3. Phone storage 12.66GB

I am continually told there is not enough memory to update / install an app. I have spent some time reading posts and understand the following is possible

1. Root the phone
2. Install only the parts of Android that are necessary for the system to work.I would not need to install Google Books, Weather etc.
2. Allocate some of the SD card as sytem storage so I would have internal storage + say 8GB for downloading / installing apps

Is any or all of this correct???

Also if I root the phone can I update Android to a later version at the same time

Before rooting, have you tried freeing up space by clearing cache and/or uninstalling unused apps?

You can put a custom ROM on the phone after rooting it, if people with your phone have made ROMs. Check the rooting section for your phone for more info:

The two main advantages of rooting a phone are being able to put a custom ROM on the phone and the ability to install apps that require root.

Two downsides - there is a small chance you can brick the phone, and if it's newer you may void the warranty.

The root process is different for every phone, so follow instructions for your specific device. Here is more information about rooting:

Thanks for info. I have been down the clearing cache, data etc route several times and whilst this can be a temporary fix the problem soon re-appears. Hence my interest in rooting + adding sytem storage to SD card.
