Smartphone query?

Hi, I just bought the Galaxy Apollo Smartphone and am on an 02 pay as you go sim.Even though I have wifi set up my credit is being eaten up. Yesterday I purposely did not browse the internet, and only used my phone to text, but still my credit was used up. Why is this and how do I stop this happening?
Thanks
Bob:confused:

Hi Bob, I'm not 100% about this but your apps, google maps, etc are probably syncing. I believe there is a setting that you can turn off. Welcome to Android Forums!

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Android devices, are by the definition, Internet devices. Lots of things go on within these devices that require Internet access. As Bobcat mentioned, you typically have numerous apps on the phone that sync with the cloud (Internet). Go into settings and disable auto-syncing for your email and Gmail accounts.

Also if you have social networking configured, disable it from automatically syncing to get updated status information.
