Smartphones and family plans

I was looking into upgrading my phone yesterday and was surprised when I tried to select an android phone on VZW's website. I was presented with a message stating that this phone (and I tried several android phones) is not "compatible" with my family plan.

I currently have a 1400 minute Talk & Text plan with 5 phones.

I then clicked on the "show me phones compatible with my plan" and all of the smartphones disappeared.

Has anyone heard of this before?

I will call VZW later today. Just thought I would check here first.

is the older family plan? or the current one?

If you don't mind my suggestion, I'd ask the vzw csr in the Ask a verizon rep anything thread.

I called VZW today. Indeed, it was because I had an older family plan. I thought I had a small data plan on my line. What I really had was a line with unlimited data at the same cost as the line plus data.

Also, this is not the primary line. While this is my phone #, all lines are in my name.

I was able to switch my plan to one compatible with VZW's smartphones for less cost than I was paying previously.
