Smartwatch compatible with pixel XL 2

I want to get a smartwatch but not sure what one is compatible with the pixel XL 2. Heard mixed things about the gear S3 some say it works and some say the messaging doesn't work on it.

Any watch that's Android Wear compatible should work with a Pixel phone. Gear S3, I don't know, is that one of their own Tizen things, that only works with Samsung phones?

Samsung Gear will sort of work, but you should look at any of the Android Wear devices for full functionality. Is there any specific area you are looking for? Style? Fitness? Communication? Looking like a nerd?

Well LG (the maker of our beloved PXL2) partnered with Google (briefly) in 2017 on Smartwatches. LG Watch Style and Sport. Huawei, Motorola ... there's A LOT of Android wear makers, just no one has made any since 2017. (Mainstream - full function) ... so I am in the market now too since my Moto 360 v2 is getting a bit long in the tooth after 2+ years of use ... I have not found something I am comfortable with but have a look for yourself.

We might see some new Android Wear Wear OS watches announced next week at Baselworld.

Don't know if any will be worth buying but it would probably be good to wait and see if anything strikes your fancy before "settling" for one of last year's models.
