Smartwatch Question...

So.... I'm posting this here, but if you want to move it, feel free...

Do any of you wear smartwatches? If so, do you like it? If not, do you think it's a really dumb idea? I'm thinking of buying a newish gear s2 refurb and putting a verizon phone line on it. Part of really likes the gear s2 classic, but another part of me thinks just going to be stupid to have more notifications to reply to. I grew up watching Dick Tracy and all (calling all cars... etc) but a phone on my wrist?

I guess I need someone to talk me down. I am reluctant to pull the trigger but I've been watching the Ebay and Verizon sites for about two weeks.

I think I probably would, but problem for me in China, there's nothing really available that I'd want or could use. Huawei Watch is probably the nearest, but that depends on Baidu, which I prefer to stay away from sometimes. And the new plastic and rubber Huawei Watch 2 is just fugly IMO, I don't need a hockey puck on my wrist. I don't have a Samsung Galaxy or an Apple iPhone, so that rules out those devices. And the plethora of no-name cheapo smart-watches can be really horrible.

Apart from fitness tracker bands, if I actually see anyone here wearing and using a smart-watch, it's nearly always an Apple Watch.

I don't think it's dumb at all :)
The only reason I have one is the ability to choose from about 3.4 zillion watchfaces. I do like the idea of seeing who is calling/texting/emailing me from the notification on the watch, but I almost always whip out my smartphone to reply to them.

I have the black/black Huawei watch and no issues in over a year.
 
I have a smartwatch. A Huawei Watch. I LOVE it.

I wear my phone on my hip, in a horizontal holster on my belt. It's so nice to get text notifications, emails, calendar events, weather and other alerts, and phone call notifications right on my wrist, without having to take my phone out every single time. The watch has a microphone, so I can reply to messages right on my wrist. I also wear a Bluetooth stereo headset a good bit of the day: so if a call comes in, I look at my smartwatch to see who's calling me, and I can accept or reject the call without ever touching my phone.

Plus it tells time :D

In fact, there are THOUSANDS of watch faces to choose from, to match any style, mood or occasion. With the new watches coming out with NFC, I'll be able to tap my watch to a terminal to pay for things.

I don't think it's stupid at all. And they aren't additional notifications - they're the same as the ones on my phone, with the added convenience of being able to swipe them away right on the watch. I believe that if 100 people were to try a smartwatch and really use its capabilities, 97 of them will never want to be without it again.

Being able to leave my phone in my pocket and still keep up with and respond to notifications and having a dashboard to some of the most critical information at a glance is worth it. BTW, I also have the Huawei watch.
 
I guess it's down to your circumstances. My life isn't complicated enough to justify a Smartwatch. Although I have recently been dragged into the 21st century, with the addition of Bluetooth in the car. :)
I am a technophile, and it does appeal to me, but I can't really justify it myself. A guy at work uses his Sony watch to track his running. That might be a deciding factor for me, if I didn't already have a Garmin GPS watch on my wrist.
 
I have an asus zenwatch 2. Love it, Im on the road alot and work in a call center. So I am able to make calls and view notifications at anytime, even if I'm not allowed access to my phone.

Just waiting on wear 2.0 to be available......still waiting.

I like the "forgot my phone" feature that alerts you when you leave your phone behind.
 
broke down & got the verizon s2 classic. Just activated it via BT. Made a first phone call .. nice... not gonna buy a dedicated line for it monthly at this point. Oh yeah, the app selection sux.
 
I really like my Asus Zenwatch, but the pedometer app doesn't function like I want it to. When I leave the house for the day, I want it to count my steps until I tell it to stop (really until I get home at the end of the day.) For some reason, when I remain inactive for a period of time, the app shuts off & gives me the total. If I have to write it down & tally the total myself, I may as well not have an app... But I like being able to choose a different style analog or digital watch face to suit my mood or surroundings. It's nice having it let me know I have emails or twitter messages, even though I don't read them directly on my watch (which it can do if you're so inclined.)
 
I have a zenwatch as well, my steps are counted from the first step when I wake up to when I plug my watch in to charge when going to sleep. I've removed my watch and set it on a table or whatever for extended periods of time and it has never reset. That sounds weird.

Maybe I just have the wrong app. I want mine to do what yours does.
 
When you select your face, are you customizing it? You can choose up to 3 widgets on the face. Make sure you have the steps widget selected.

Thank you for the help. Given time, I'll figure it out. It's still a new thing to me. It's definitely worth having a smartwatch.
