does anyone know how to stop the text from appearing on the front screen when you get a text without having to disable the notifications all together.... id like an icon and sound alert when i get a text without having the message listed on my front screen..... i have an HTC EVO 4G. i also have played with alot of sms apps that absolutely do not work... they all claim to be private sms for filter functions that do nothing... i have to say coming from an IPHONE 4 the apps in the apple store or from cydia crap all over the market place apps....

Might help if you tell us what app you're using, since if I remember right, the stock messenger doesn't do that (unless there's something different with the EVO).
Generally speaking, though, it's a simple matter of pressing the menu button while you're in the app, choosing settings, and disabling any kind of popup notifications. This holds true for pretty much any app. If you want to change settings, you to go menu>settings. Not very intuitive, I know.

As stated above that sounds like a popup. Check the settings in your app. Notifications and pop-ups are not the same thing. Rule of thumb: notifications appear in your notification bar.

its the stock app and maybe u have different software but the HTC EVO 4G absolutely does what i stated... to add.... there is only one option to turn off notification for sms... u cant have just a sound or an icon u have to have it all including the message popping up or nothing...
