First did you set GO sms as your default messenger?

Were you even using any texting app on your tablet before you started using Go SMS Pro? I'm almost getting the impression you just installed the app onto it but without a previously established cellular account set up on your tablet, that's the problem. Any texting app requires an active phone number to work off of.
However, if you were using a different texting app before and just want to switch to Go SMS Pro as the new default texting app, try going into your Settings menu, open the Apps menu, find the texting app you were using and open it, then clear its default open settings. Now open the Go SMS Pro app and if you're asked if to allow it be used as the default texting app tap on yes.

It really would help if you would state what tablet model you have and which version of Android it's running. There are a lot of variables involved.

You don't need a separate phone plan for your tablet, you need to dig into the Go SMS Pro app's Settings menu and link it to your phone number (that you already use with your current phone plan). Just note that some things, like MMS (attached media files like photos), will often be done only via a cellular connection (your phone plan). But for just basic SMS texts, those work over WiFi and cellular connections.

You can also use many other other apps like WhatsApp or Skype to communicate with people without a phone plan on the tablet, but the other person also needs that app installed.

Those types of apps don't send regular texts and work over WiFi.

Thanks for all the help guys! i'm just going to add a new note! **I have no internet connection at my house, does anyone know any apps i can use on a tablet with no wifi? Probably not but I' m just going to check

Without a WiFi connection, if your tablet isn't a model that includes the capability to link to your cellular phone service, there's not much you can do about it. Your tablet needs at least either WiFi or cellular connectivity for any kind of online access.

To talk to other people svim is right, you'll need internet.

For non-texting: Lots of games will work offline, you can also buy and download movies and e-books from Play Store when you have WiFi and watch/read at home.

Where are you located? Is your lack of WiFi a financial/budget issue or geographic location matter?
There are free WiFi services, like FreedomPop:
https://www.freedompop.com/
Might not be available where you live, and note that by being free of cost it does have strict limits on usage, 500MBs of data per month. If all you want is to be able to text message, that's an adequate amount (texting is a very low bandwidth form of communication).
But if you want it for anything more, like general web browser surfing, that 500MB won't last more than a day or two, and to watch some streaming video, like a few episodes of some show on Netflix, a few hours if you stick with standard resolution, a few minutes if you go for high res.
