Help sms problem

HI guys.
MY wife is having a serious issue with text messages on her desire. She got a message earlier from a friend which can't be opened correctly or deleted. IT opens for about 5 seconds then closes messenger. WHen messenger is opened again, It shows as a new message. It keeps coming up in the notification bar as if It has just arrived. Turning off the phone removing battery, sim and SD doesn't solve it. OTher messages are still able to open and delete. She can receive new messages but can't send.

I can't seem to solve it for her, please help

EVen clearing data in messenger in manage apps doesn't delete her messages. Deleting all messages within messenger just closes messenger. Any ideas guys?

Looks like it looses its signal for a few seconds too when it kicks out of messenger. Big problems

try installing third party messaging app, like chomp. Will this do the trick?

I have done a factory reset for her. This has solved it. A bit Extreme but she didn't have many apps really. She is only really a social network user. What a waste of a great handset
