Help SMS resending after reboot

My fiance picked up a new transform yesterday (his first android). The Best Buy guy transferred all of his SMS and other yesterday and we had no problems (other than being terribly distracted during the evening football games playing with it) until he rebooted it for the first time. When it finished rebooting, it started resending all of the messages from his old phone. We think we fixed it by deleting all of his messages and rebooting, but it's a real aggravation. Anyone else have this problem?

Never once, this is peculiar, but then again, when I went to Best Buy to sync my contacts, I thought I had them until I went to my contacts and watched them disappear one by one for no reason.
