Help SMS Text Msg settings

I am new to MetroPCS so I am trying to figure out if business-to-personal SMS/Text messages are blocked or I need to change some setting in my phone.

Basically, I can get any SMS/Text message from another mobile. But if a business or financial institution (banks) sends me SMS/Text alert, I never get it.

Are there any SMS setting or filter I need to play with? I called Metro customer service, and they claim Metro doesn't block any text message. They told me to turn off my phone and wait 15 sec and turn it back on to fix this...but no help :-(

I also have had issues in the past receiving text messages from businesses and banks, on several different phones from Metro (dumb phones up to and including a BlackBerry 8330). I believe it's a limitation of Metro's messaging system, or that the company sending the message isn't formatting it properly to go through Metro's system somehow. The only company that seemed to be able to do it properly was Papa Johns, I still get those all the time with the pizza specials. :)

Another thing I noticed, is that often times when you sign up to receive text messages from some company, bank, or website, etc. that "Metro PCS" is not one of the options listed in the "select your carrier" drop down list. I think that's pretty dumb when the list contains about 10 or more different companies, but not Metro (especially considering I think they are the 5th biggest carrier in the U.S. right now if I am not mistaken).

I am getting an Indulge now, and I haven't tested receiving any text messages from businesses yet. If you have an Indulge (I am assuming you do, as you posted in this forum) or other smart phone, why not just get the alerts sent to you via email? That would be much more reliable, IMO.

Another thing you can do, if you don't have an email capable phone, is to sign up to send an email to 1234567890@mymetropcs.com (where 1234567890 = your phone number). Metro has an email to sms gateway that converts the message from an email to sms and sends it to your phone. You can even hit reply, and it will be converted back the other way to the person sending the email! Just be careful, some times it will break long emails / messages into 2 or 3 txt messages, but not always.

ROFL MetroPCS blocks almost all shortcodes. Your bank is probably sending out text via shortcode. Whoever told you metro doesnt block text's doesnt know what they are talking about.

Go ahead and try texting redcross for japan donation live everyone else is doing right now, you will get a message back saying the shortcode is blocked.

Not all plans have short code support. Goto metro's website and check the available plans to see which you have to upgrade to
