Help SMS to pc

Has anyone had any experience (and luck) of copying their text messages from their Xperia to pc? I want to back up messages, not to restore to the phone but to save on my pc to free up some phone memory. I don't want to lose the messages and so I would like them to be in a readable word/text file on my computer.

I've seen a few apps around but there are so many it's hard to knwo which would be best. 'Veryandroid sms backup' looked brilliant but it had very bad feedback so I don't want to risk downloading it.

Sms backup+ will backup to Gmail
Sms backup and restore is what I use to back them up, does it as an xml file, can't tell you if it is readable on a pc though.

Thank you. I will try the back up to G mail. I found an app that backs up but it does it to your sd card and as the xperia s doesn't have an sd card when I did the back up, I couldn't find the file on my pc where this got saved to.

You can still view the built in sd card as you could any traditional sd card.
