Why would I want it if there are no roms anyhow? And has anyone used this method yet?

I rooted and there are roms on xda. I am still stock though. I rooted for backuo and ability to flash things like Netflix and stock navigation icons.

can i use this method on other android devices like HTC Thunderbolt?

No, there are specific methods for each device, if your going to root the TB the best way is manually, Ive heard theres a one click (or close) but if you have problems its hard to troubleshoot.

is there any timeframe for a one click root method for windows? I was not able to get Linux running from a flash drive. or is it even possible for windows?

You can't "Root" windows. Android and apple iOS (for iPods and iPhones) are "locked" so you can't access the "root" files. You can modify almost any file you want in Windows already. So the term doesn't work.

To "boot" a different OS in Windows you need to follow other steps, and if you go into the Bios screen, it's quite simple to boot any other OS from a flahsdrive. It's trickier to setup a "bootloader" which allows you to choose between which OS you want to boot when the computer starts up.

Also if you really want to get into Linux,, Mac, or other OS, try some "virtualization" software. For instane, I use the free (and legal) copy of VMWare player to run windows XP inside a window on my Win7 PC. You have to have the harddrive space to install another OS, and it runs slower than it should, but for trying out another OS or playing old games that don't run right on win7 it's fine

Sorry. I meant a way to root the ASUS Transformer from a windows computer because right now it is only possible from linux.

Also, i tried booting linux from a flash drive and everything woorked except i couldnt get to the desktop for some reason. I dont know what went wrong and it isnt a big deal. I was just trying to root to overclock and it isnt really laggy so i can wait.

ha Silly Me. I haven't even checked into rooting so didn't know that.
(Which is unusual, I rooted my Android phone and have Rockbox on all my Sansa MP3 players.) I guess I've just been very satisfied with the TF out of the box so haven't wanted to break what I got going on..

Same with me. I have MIUI on my incredible and could never go back to stock android as it is now (never know what ice cream sandwich will bring), but I havent really seriously considered root yet for the transformer. The only reason i was even considering rooting was for Netflix.

I am over it now though. I will just wait to root if there is an ICS leak and I don't want to wait for ASUS to put it out officially :D

I could translate the root method from linux to windows if I had a TF to test with...as of yet, the only reason I'm even looking in this area of the forums is because I am saving for a TF(which is taking longer than I thought it would). Soooo.......any donations would be accepted. ;P

This "one click" root works like magic.

The caveat, as people mentioned, it runs from Linux only but why not give Ubuntu a try and root your TF in the process, too? You still have to burn a CD to make that method work, right?

Get Ubuntu live CD, or USB stick, you don't even need to install Ubuntu on a hard drive, or you could install it inside Windows like any other program, it will just run slower.

I rooted after encountering two nasty bootloops that required a total wipe to get my TF back. With root I installed Titanium Backup to at least make restoring my apps and settings easier.

During root process you'll be given an option to install CWM for custom Roms, nandroid backups etc but you'll be locked out of potential OTAs, I chose "no", atm there are no bootloop solutions or sleep-of-death solutions in custom Rom universe either.

My TF loves to sleep and loop itself...

Try this for Netflix. It works on my stock TF.

The Thunderbolt root method has been updated with Revolutionary, which is a perm S-Off and includes the option for root). Previously, yes, it was a manual process.
