So chicks dont use Androids?

A female friend switched from a BB to a droid x. Not only is it an android phone but it's also the biggest android phone.

The "chicks" in my office are an Android happy bunch. More girls/women have Androids than guys actually.
The girls have (in my immediate area): 3 Androids, 1 BB, 1 iPhone, 2 flip/basic phones and 1 Dare that will be upgraded to Android.
The guys have 2 Androids, 1 BB, 1 flip/basic that will be upgraded to Android.
When I wander around my building (1500+ employees) I see a LOT of "chicks" using Androids, it seems like more show up every week. It used to be iPhone central but the tide is turning.

There seems to be no disparity in numbers of male or female users of Android devices, as far as I've seen.

Perhaps the Motorola Droid attracted more guys than gals, especially at first, lending credence to the "more males than females" thing that changed over time and with more Android devices being released nearly every month now.

My gf is my mentor when it comes to android, I mean... I am finally getting my own android phone now after lot of thinking and reading, but I'm still good 6 months after my gf in terms of getting a android phone. So she is the one that helps me out with how the OS works out and widgets to get.

If you also look on this forum you also see there is coming in more and more females, some is less visible then others but it does show android is getting more accessible then it was before.

It should be mentioned that not everyone is on AT&T and has the option to get an iPhone. I wonder how many more people would be using an iPhone if it were over all carriers.

Many people 'settle' for an Android as that's their only choice for top-end smartphones. I... was not one of those ;)

I know several people who have unlocked iPhones on T-Mobile.

Anyhoo...the first person I know who got the original Droid when it came out was my boss, a woman. She loves that thing, & is talking about upgrading to the Droid 2 or Droid X soon. When the Droid came out, there was a huge display @ a local mall where you could play around w/ them & enter a drawing to win one. Every time I passed that display I would see more women than men playing around w/ them.

As for my own immediate group of friends, I'm actually the only one that has an Android. Everyone else has iPhones, Blackberries, an ancient Sidekick 3, & dumbphones. I'm trying to spread the love of the little green robot, though.

... ... and out comes the words " .. because we all know women arent using Androids"

...

I've found that phrases like "because we all know <assertion>" are often used to keep people from disagreeing with something that has zero data to back it up. It's right up there with "only a fool would think <assertion>".

all my chick ever wanted was a phone with a keyboard, so last year i got her one.... a lotus, she picked it out and loved it until wear and tear took over. she then saw my lil cousin (female 8 years younger) with a moment. the only thing my chick was impressed by was the keyboard and touchscreen.

as time went on and she saw more about the different phones out there shedecided she wanted to go android so i got her an epic for her 39th bday. now shes not techy but she does enjoy her computer and she loves how she can now carry 70% of her laptop in her purse. and shes getting more savvy everyday by trial and error (nothing bad of course)

so the guy that made that statement is a dipshit and you can tell him i said so

Three. Would you like their names?

And many people settle for cars because the Navy keeps rejecting them to buy submarines.

Hmmmm let me count the number of Androids around me.

I have one and my girl has one. My sister has one and so does my mom (She is 70, btw for all of you talking about demographics;)). There are three women in my office with them as well. So far that is 7. Then three of my girl's friends have them and six of my friends have them. So, just off the top of my head I can think of 12 women that have Android phones that are not on this forum.

I guess that doesn't apply to me, then. I'm a sixteen year old girl. Yet, I'm extremely tech savvy. I know loads more about technology than my brothers (They're all in their twenties...) Everyone used to go to my oldest brother for tech advice, because they thought he knew everything, but one time my brother couldn't figure something out (He worked on it for hours) I tried my hand at it and it took me ten minutes tops... Everyone was amazed and now goes to ME for advice! :) So, anyway, I'm a young female who just bought a droid x! Just because I'm not stupid, doesn't mean I'm not a female... Just because I'm a female, doesn't mean I'm stupid. :\

My wife got her D2 after I got the X. After about a week of frustration she finally just handed it to me and said "make it work". It's not BECAUSE she is a 30 something woman that she has this attitude. But I think there is a correlation between that demographic and the ambivalence toward playing with a phone for hours to get it just right.

She will never benefit from all that is possible with the phone. But for her, calendar, facebook, email, text and phone is all she really wants.

Usually stereotypes have an origin in truth. The same point could be made for anyone over 40. Most don't want to figure out how to use their phone. And the Android takes some getting used to and some research to make it work.

Oddly enough, my mother has had to show my dad how to use his phone.

I think it's more of a personality thing than an age issue. My close friend, mid 20s, uses her Android phone at 10% of its potential. I tell her what to install...and she doesn't bother...I install the apps for her...and she doesn't use them :/ To her a phone is for call and text and maybe play games when she's bored but she doesn't bother with the other stuff.

OTD, your mom doesn't count...she's speical ;) I mean c'mon she is a vampire's mom!!! haha

Just because I'm not stupid, doesn't mean I'm not a female... Just because I'm a female, doesn't mean I'm stupid. :\

That quote is too 20th century!!!

It should be:
Just because I'm tech savy, doesn't mean I'm not a feamle. Just because I'm a female, doesn't mean I'm not tech savy!!!

:D

Just because I'm tech savy, doesn't mean I'm not a feamle. Just because I'm a female, doesn't mean I'm not tech savy!!!

And just because I'm male doesn't mean I'm a testosterone laced pig who thinks with the "other" head ... oh, wait a minute. Yes it does. ;)

I am mentally processing 2 different ways to reply to your post;
Option 1
I love your avatar, i love your profile, i love your posts, i love your mom for having a droid, i love your proper punctuation (im assuming its proper), i love your name in red, well i love your name too lol, i love that your an admin (chicks with authority are hawwwt)

and then

Option 2
BTW I love your Avatar

Ok im now officially an out of the closet forum stalker lol. Please dont ban me, at least i didnt make a new thread for this!! :)

Back on topic, i really didnt put all THIS much thought into it ... in my own experience, i notice a lot of girls "18-30'ish" are still on the BB wagon, hooked on BBM like crack. But i actually do know of several girls including my wife who loves the Droid

I am a techie college student, 20yrs old and i only use android. Data can be misleading, i actually did a lot of research before i got my phone...i did not just get it because it was sexy...

Ironically, I knew jack shit about android until the G1 came out. A few friends had it (a few females, and males) I thought it was cool, but nothing impressive. Then in december, my girlfriend got the Motorola Droid, and when i saw it, i was blown away. I'd never seen such a rich display, features and functions. It was then I learned about android and it's true capabilities. At the time, I had a Samsung Eternity, So i was in the market for a new phone. Being that At&t's android offerings were shit, I was about to jump ship to Verizon, but then the phone I wanted (droid incredible) was unavailable, so I stuck it out, and bought the Captivate.

Anyway, long story short, Chicks use android. Though I'll say for the most part, it lies with personality. My girl is a huge texter, and she was limited to Verizon, after jumping from Tmobile. The Droid was perfect for her, with a good keyboard for texting etc..

I'm female .. definately not a "chick" more of the boiling fowl variety. Nearing retirement age, and I love my Desire. Previous phone was a Motorola V3, so it was quite a jump.
I am the only one in my workplace with an Android phone (25 employees) and what has caused the most comments is the sliding keyboard!

I'll add to all this that both myself and my partner (another chick) love our Droid Incredible's - I'm more of a power user and overload my phone with all manner of widgets etc, she's a straightforward user whose very happy with most of the stock stuff (which is probably why her battery lasts 3 times longer than mine :)).

What I've got out of this thread is very simply that, in this day and age I think you're fair more likely to see more female involvement in technology - after all gents we are now out numbering you when it comes to graduating college and now, we're beating the guys at the PhD game as well!

Not saying all this to say we're better than men (though some would disagree with that point I've no doubt), but that the world today is a vastly different landscape than it was even 10 years ago and a chick with a Droid shouldn't be a surprise.

Face it lads, we can be just as geeky as you

When I posted this a few months ago, I had the only Android in my workplace. Now in a company of all female employees ... 8 of them have Androids (6 HTC desires, a wildfire and an experia Mini.
That must say something about Androids popularity.
