So I am a bit iffy

mikayla

Newbie
I got a mytouch 4g for the simple fact
1)Webcam
2)Wi-fi calling
Unfortunately, I can't use the webcam really as most ppl i know don't videochat much so idk how it really works or if it works

But my wi-fi calling seems horrible. Literally it sucks.
I did a wi-fi call and the quality is even more choppy
then when I am just using the network with 1 bar or no bars showing
It cuts in and out.

Is there anything i can do to fix this?
Also,
I notice my wi-fi signal loses a bar when i hold it at the top left(like i were trying to block the sun out, if i barely have my hand blocking the phone at the top left side i will lose part of wi-fi signal

From what I understand you need to use qik to video call. I have friends with iphones, but qik video call is not supported on the iphone. We both downloaded tango and it works great.

As for the wifi, it is very likely the quality of your wifi. I can pull down 20MB and upload 1.4, but all the QoS test I do say that my calls will be bad. The first 20 seconds are a problem then it smooths out.

I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I'm wanting the G2 because of the keyboard but I know the myTouch is better. I'm torn!

Wi-Fi calling is very choppy, it annoyed me tremendously. So I don't think I'll be using it until it gets an update. That might be the only thing that can help it.

Oh it's not anything wrong with the webcam. I just haven't really had much time trying it because nobody i know really videochats.
It was just one of the features that made me get it.

and i am glad to see i am not the only one having issues with wifi calling. I live in the boondocks and i thought wifi calling would enhance the signal and it doesnt. I am kind of
ready to get back to school to utilize these 4g speeds.
I just dont understand why wifi calling is so bad

it might be your router causing your Wi-Fi Calling issues. when I'm at my in-laws (who's wi-fi router is about 6 years old) my Wi-Fi Calling sounds horrid, but when I'm at home on my new router it sounds better than my normal cell service and about as good as my landline.

edit: I'm using a newer Netgear router using 802.11 N (backwards compatible down to 802.11 B)

Try this check and see what the QoS% comes back as. Most newer routers allow for you to prioritize VOIP and Quality of Service. My Apple router does not give me this, however I still get a poor rating with zero traffic. This lead me to believe it was my ISP throttling VOIP protocols.

The sad thing is most ISP offer some sort of VOIP and want you to buy it from them. That being said, I have a small business ISP at work that is technically slower than at home, but has a 90+% QoS.

I actually called At&t internet about the internet we have(we have DSL) and sometimes it will lose connection for a few moments. I think she called it an intermitten sync. I maybe wrong

they are sending a new router free of charge to us so maybe that will solve the problem. But I need to find someone who i can videochat with. One key feature that i cant use. Oh well

MyConnection Server, speed testing, Video and IPTV testing, speed capacity testing, network assessment testing, network route performance, VoIP quality testing

My QoS came back as 97% and my VoIP came back as 0.7ms average jitter and 0.0% packet loss using Houston, TX (closest to me, about 200 miles).

My QoS came back as 94% and my VoIP came back as 3.8ms average jitter and 0.0% packet loss using London, UK. (farthest I could pick)

Can I ask what internet provider? Sound like your setup is good. I would also try it under load.

I have the basic package from Time/Warner, while the tests where running I was playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood online on my PS3, so that should of handled the load

it's working perfectly now, thank you all and thanks to the guy who videochat with me so i could try it out

I love my device
