Root So many roms, sense hd, where to start?

Right people, opinions required.
I'm about to root and flash a dhd sense Rom, but I have no idea which one is best, most stable and as is standard from dhd itself, I don't have major apps2sd issues.

Any advice welcome. Additionally, anyone recommend a gbread Rom? Ways the advantage over sense dhd Rom? If any?

Cheers
Scooter

Not sure I understand what you mean by "and as is standard from dhd itself, I don't have major apps2sd issues.".

Can't really recommend a Sense HD ROM, as I've never used one. Lecter will suggest InsertCoin 1.8h I believe. I've also seen one of the ones starting with "R" recommended, but can't remember which!

Gingerbread is different. Compared with Froyo it's mostly under the hood updates and a few UI tweaks. I prefer it to Froyo - been using it for a couple of months now. However, the biggest difference you'll notice is not between GB and Froyo but between Sense and vanilla Android, because there are no Gingerbread Sense ROMs. For those of us who'd chosen to move away from Sense anyway that's not a problem (a lot of us would say it's an advantage!), but you may find that you prefer the Sense UI or the HTC apps (which also only run on Sense ROMs). If so, stick with Sense or Sense HD and wait for HTC to release a gingerbread version (which will then be avaiable in rooted form very soon afterwards).

If you do try a GB ROM I'd suggest adding a custom launcher (I use LauncherPro), but more importantly I'd suggest trying it for a couple of days rather than a couple of minutes. The first impression with a very different ROM can be that it doesn't work the way you expect, or doesn't have some feature, and so it's easy to quickly decide "I don't like this". It takes a little longer to find out what the advantages of a different interface are, or what other features it has that the previous one didn't. If I ever try MIUI, remind me of those words! ;)

So what your saying is vanilla froyo is basically froyo minus sense?
I kinda do like sense, but would be happy to try a gb Rom, have you noticed any major improvement since froyo?

What is miui based on, froyo?
It's quite hard to choose what to flash, maybe leaving them on a few days is the answer like you day.

Sorry for all the questions!

The changes since Froyo are not huge things - from the user's point of view they are more little tweaks to the UI, such as battery graph and other status information in some of the menus, a default theme with a lot more black, cool if pointless screen-off effects. Memory management has changed a bit, and I'm sure there are many other under the hood changes that are less obvious. Some speed improvements, but then vanilla Froyo ROMs could be pretty quick too. The ROM I'm using includes CyanogenMod additions, and some of these have been improved since Froyo (e.g. the optional power control in the notification pull-down is now a side-scrolling control rather than a fixed one).

Miui is currently Froyo based, but the devs are reported to be working on a Gingerbread version.

There are a lot of ROMs, but they do seem to fall into 4 main categories: Sense, Sense HD, AOSP and Miui. AOSP = Android Open Source Project, i.e. vanilla. Technically Miui is AOSP too, but the interface is different enough that it makes sense to give it its own classification.

However, once you've done it a couple of times it's very easy to change ROMs, so you can always just try a few different ones and see what you like.
