So Metro pretty much sucks.

Everyone knows this I'm sure.

But I went to two different stores today and they both told me two different reasons why my LG Ally couldn't be flashed.

The first store couldn't get it to show up in Houdini, once they found out about the root and ROM they instantly blamed that, just as they were telling someone who had a Metro phone his internet wasn't working because of a very light pink tint on the water damage sticker.

I think when they hire, the only requirement is to be competent enough to plug a USB cable in, click a few things, and type. These people are so electronically challenged, it makes my mom look like Steve Wozniak. How bad is it when they don't even know what it is to root an android device? The lady was like "oh, you jailbroke it?"

The second store told me they flash rooted devices all the time with no hitch, but this phone was too new and can't be flashed.

Now, I know this whole deal is absolute bs, I sat in the first Metro for over an hour, filled out all the papers and had a number, then they decided to try and flash the phone.

Now, I'm aggravated with Metro for the last time, I've never liked there coverage or phones, and I realized today while reading the coverage map, they just all out suck.

End rant.

So now if I could get the $1.99 Verizon daily plan on this thing, I'd be set.

Metro is a great value for the cellular + data service you get for the monthly price, plus no credit check and pay as you go monthly no contract plans.

I wouldn't count on your average store rep to even give you a straight answer about anything, much less be able to successfully flash a non-Metro phone. Methinks you ask too much (in terms of store rep training) for $50 per month (remember that includes UNLIMITED EVERYTHING!).

Why don't you try one of the phones that is made for Metro? I have the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, and I can tell you it's awesome! Or else, go to a store that also actually repairs phones in the store, they might be more knowledgeable and be able to help you. But I think what you are asking for is well above and beyond what should be expected from the average store rep.

I know this is almost a month old, but I need to say this: Flashed phones are a thing of the past as soon as metro released the optimus. also Metroflash phones are not available to be used in all metro networks. I don;t know about you, but If im buying a phone, i want itto work 100% with my carrier, not 60% because the rest needs to tweeked every so often when the settings change

sounds like you're going to the wrong places. also, take it their stock first so no issues can arise. in the world of hacking/modding you have to think outside the box. not just think everything is perfect. once you take it their stock they "should" be able to help you. if you're in the detroit area let me know. i can tell you a store to go to, and i myself, will stop by and do it for you.

asking a sales rep at any store for any carrier about technical issues ir more or less futile. those people are there to sell you a product and help you with issues with your account. they're not trained to do anything else.

metro is pretty much done with flashing anyway
http://androidforums.com/metro-pcs/...sh-cdma-flashing-service.html?highlight=flash

you could probably still find someone who could flash the phone for you but it will be at your own risk and the flash service will have nothing to do with metroPCS.

Recently I switched to Virgin. Their phone HTC EVO V 4g way better than Metro's LG Esteem and its $70 less.

As far as I can tell 4g coverage is better. Their 3g is faster than metros 2.5g and the coverage map
is way better. I have the $35 plan, which is $15 dollars cheaper than Metros. Granted it only has 300
minutes, but I never come close to that. Virgin's $45 plan has 1200 minute and it's still $5 cheaper than Metro's. Virgin/Sprint customer service is light years ahead of Metro's. So, after less than two years the $15 month more than pays for the $300 phone. But, with no contract I can bail out at any time.

In the end I have a better phone, faster data rates, better coverage, and better customer service
for less money. Well, that was an easy decision.

look here:
HTC EVO 3D vs LG Connect 4G vs LG Esteem - Phone specs comparison

the esteem is not metro's top phone specs wise anyway, the connect is. the evo is better, but not by that much and it costs $50 more. the samsung lightray will have better specs than the evo. the samsung GSIII, if kept in tact, will destroy the evo and the iphone 4s.

i've stated how data limits make having fast 4G speeds useless enough times on here, i wont go through it again. honestly, until they allow for 20mbps speeds without throttling, fast 4g speeds are overrated. reliability is way more important than speed. 4-5mbps is all you need to do anything on the web.

i am glad you found something that worked for you but the lightray and GSIII and their reported 4G expansion are gonna put metro back on top of the prepaid world(or maybe more on top than they already are).

patience is a virtue.

I was a MetroPCS customer and you wouldn't believe the mountain of
grief they caused me. Story at http//SwensonStudio.com/metropcs.htm
While I believe that this merger is good for the consumer in general,
it's bad for the metroPCS subscribers. I'm glad that I bailed. If it
was bad to be a Metro customer before, it's horrible now. Customers
will be jumping ship by the boat load. Exactly, what T-mobile wants!
After all they are buying the company for it band spectrum, not the
customer base. The best case would be to take their Metro phones, get
them unlocked and subscribe to goSmart Phone. I think that's the basic
game plan. A plan that's $5 cheaper, without the narrow channels that
Metro uses means a much faster 4g, and way better coverage and much
better customer support. Not too bad unless you have a phone that can't
be unlocked or you can't unlock the one you have.

Then you'll have to queue up for your GSM/HSPA handsets and throw
your old CDMA phones away. Remember the 'service and plan subject to
change' fine print. Well, it's about to kick-in. If any of you think
that T-mobile is going to slow it's race to compete with Verizon and
AT&T, I have a bridge for sale. With their 40mhz pipe, double that of
Verizon and AT&T, they have much, much more data capacity, which is
where the action is. So, They have Verizon and AT&T in their sights.
Do they have the capital and expertise to pull it off? I don't know,
but it'll be fun to watch. That means the quickest possible phase out
of Metro's CDMA net and the assimilation of it's towers, and more
importantly band spectrum, into the T-mobile net is probably their
highest priority. It would be mine.

The only question that remains is how many 100's of millions of dollars
will the top executives at Metro get for selling their company, it's
employees and their subscribers down the river. If you think Metro's
customer service was bad before. You haven't seen nothin' yet.

 That's really funny. I guess a lot of people had hopes for that phone, and then were disappointed when it came out. I remember seeing the price and thinking that it wasn't worth it at all.

What didn't make sense is Metro knew the S3 was coming, so why in the hell did they release that god awful device to begin with. That was the dumbest ish I've ever seen Metro do.

I have the $35 plan, which is $15 dollars cheaper than Metros. Granted it only has 300 minutes, but I never come close to that.

I had a 300 minute $30.00 plan with Sprint and switched to Metro because I spend over 300 minutes a month with just one person.

In general you must compare apples to apples to see which is a lower cost.

I was double billed by Metro and followed the email I got from them to get to a rep in a minute or so.
The charge was reversed in a couple hours.

I've never even found the need to call them for any service trouble. I've been with them over a year. Guess every ones experience varies.

I agree....i honestly have never had any problems woth them...the only times I can say I had problems is on New Year's Day when everybody is calling there family to say happy new years and rarely when it would rain a while back I would get horrible service I don't have those problems anymore So its all good

Ok, I've looked at this damn thread for a month now and I'm tired of seeing this lame ass title.

Hey nickconforti, Metro doesn't suck.

But your net etiquette sure does.

I don't know where you took your Netiquette class but I'd suggest you go back there and get your money back. No matter what grade they gave you, you Failed that class.

In case you weren't aware, it's considered in bad taste to wade into Any damn forum on the net and title your first threads with how much the product for the forum you're in sucks. It's effin rude. It can also be considered inflammatory or trolling and be considered against most ALL forum rules. Some places it'll get your whole thread deep sixed by a Moderator as soon as it goes up.

There's a little sayin', "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". It also directly pertains to forum posts.

I don't know if you can still edit your POS thread title, but I for one wish you'd reel it back in.

I was with Virgin for 2 years prior to switching to Metro. My phone was in 1X most of the time. There was no dependable coverage outside of the city. Every time I had an issue, I had to repeat the same story to 5 different reps and most of the time there were still no adequate resolutions. My last phone with them, LG Optimus Elite was a piece of junk and they replaced it 5 times with the same refurbished junk. It is great that Virgin works for you, but in my experience Metro offers a much better product and service for comparable cost.

With Virgin I had the 300 minute a month as well and after I switched to Metro, my phone usage went up substantially. I then realized that I was cutting my conversations short in order not to exceed the 300 minutes; well that ain't no way to use a phone.
