So what's your overall impression with the SGIII?

Just wanted to add some key points:

1. Battery life is amazing. If you dont sit there staring at the percentage drop all day long, u will notice that the battery life is simply fantastic for a phone with this much power and screen real estate. I have not met ONE person with a iphone at work that doesnt have a charger at their desks. I have a solid 50% left when leaving work at 5pm. Although i dont stream videos or download bunch of things. I do many texts, few phone calls, emails, fiddling around with a few apps here and there during my smoke breaks, etc, and you can last a full day. And by a full day i mean 24 hrs. You need to "condition" your battery at first though (charge fully, empty to low, charge fully). I dont even turn the power saver on or any of the other crap. And my screen timeout is set to 5 minutes. I unplugged the phone at 8am this morning and im currently at 81% (1:38pm)

2. Excellent overall reception. This is the only phone that i've been able to use the navi on google maps in this one back route going home without it failing on me. Call quality is great.

3. Processing, and the smoothness of the User Interface. scrolling through homepages or anything is nothing short of butter smooth. I love the power of the quad-core. Quadrant Benchmark score = 5500 on a non-rooted factory international version Try that with any other phone!!(even though i dont put much weight on benchmarks)... To me the gorilla glass 2, feels a bit smoother on the surface and even more sensitive than the original. I think this give it a smoother affect too.

4. Coming from the HTc ONE X, the sound quality and loudness of both the speakers and through the headphones are a joy.

5. I was never a fan of samsung amoled screens but its grown on me big time! previous galaxy models with amoled screen and low pixel density turned me off, but the high pixel density on the S3 makes the amoled screen more appealing. If you like your black levels to actually look black, do not use this phone and go to an iPhone. It looks SOOO washed out to me now when i look at my friends iphone.
I would love to give the HTC One X the title for best screen... Indoors it wins hands down, but you cant see a darned thing when you are in any kinda sunlight, literally. Each and all screens have their benefits... so this is a subjective topic.

6. Camera - Your typical 8mp smartphone camera. Its fast, but i found that with this particular phone, u have to be alot more still with your hands to produce the best picture than with the iphone. But the best part about photography on this phone is the photo editor that samsung lets you download for free. ITS SIMPLY THE BEST quick editor i've come across, especially for free. Has tons of effects and color adjustments.

Is this phone groundbreaking? NO. But if you're waiting to buy a phone thats "groundbreaking" or "Gamechanging" then you may have to wait awhile. This is simply the best phone out right now in my opinion. Yes, new silly features and tecnology will advance yearly. But i've never gone more than 2 years with my phones anyway, so i have no issues whatsoever believing this phone will hold me down until then.

Haha!! I think I was watching a tips and tricks vid on you tube. I have been reading and watching videos for the last month about this phone.

This has gotta be a joke, right? You cannot be serious that you went back to a tiny, constrained iPhone after playing with this phone for a few hours? What are you thinking?!?

I know right? Trust me i was all geared up for it and waited a month for this phone, preordered on the 6th at 8am.

The phone just did not have that WOW factor that other phones had, the Gnex for example. I had the Gnex for four months then went back to the 4s because of the battery life and poor camera on it. The screen size, although much larger on the S3 and Gnex than the iphone does not make every day use any different. I can read websites and email just as well. The only thing that suffers is wathing movies on the phone, which i don't do anyway.

Back to the S3, it just did not do anything for me. Something about the screen just did not sit well with me, cant pinpoint it exactly what bothered me, although the whites did not really get that white at all even with brightness up.

Now, you got me thinking about it again and giving it another shot :D

I guess it's all a matter of preference and expectations. I made incremental steps from a Droid OG to an X to a Charge to a Rezound to a GNex all within about 8 months. I was never wowed by any of them. The closest thing I came to being wowed was when I put AOKP on my GNex. But I ended up selling my GNex and going back to my Droid X for a few months because I got almost the same experience with AOKP on my X.

But I'm wowed by the SGS3. Perhaps it's the white body which is such a deviation from all the dark droids. Or maybe it's just that the X was so underpowered compared to the SGS3. But whatever it is, I'm really happy with this phone.

I'm not a fan of TouchWiz, so put a new launcher on it. But you need to give it more time than a few hours...you have at least 14 days to make up your mind.
 
I was hesitant to move away from my Droid X, but Verizon forced my hand with the unlimited plan issue. I have the white 16 GB version on Verizon. Everyone that sees the phone asks me about it--even the people working at the Verizon store! After one day with the phone:

Call Reception: The S3 is, first and foremost, a phone. My calls have been crystal clear and I'm told that my voice is heard accurately. I have no complaints so far about call quality. I've had no dropped calls so far, but that's what I expect, coming from a Droid X.

TouchWiz: It isn't my beloved MIUI, but it isn't bad. After they sort out this locked bootloader issue on Verizon S3's, I may reload CM9 or MIUI on it, but I'm cool with it so far. We'll see how I feel about it once the novelty of a new phone has worn off.

WIFI: Works fine at home or at a public hotspot, but there are minor issues with our business wifi that may not be the S3's fault.

Size: While it's definitely bigger in the hand than the DX, it feels better to hold due to the S3's slimmer design and the lack of the DX's "camera bump." Although I like the screen size, a phablet like the Galaxy Note is a little too large to be practical. The S3 feels just right.

Display: I know this is an S3 forum, but I think I like the One X's screen a little better. That said, I'm very happy with the screen I have--bright, crisp, responsive, and LARGE.

Overall: While I was hesitant to upgrade at all, I'm very glad I did. It's fast, responsive, big without being overly so, and aesthetically pleasing. I highly recommend the S3, and it seems like the perfect phone to ride out the last two years of my unlimited data plan. ;) I'm using a white TPU case that fits perfectly paired with a screen protector applied at one of those mall kiosks.

Wish I could get Alive video wallpaper working, but I imagine it's something I'm overlooking.
 
Coming from the Nexus, I like much about this phone, especially the battery life. The Nexus just destroyed the stock battery any time you were screen on. This will easily far outlay the Nexus per charge.

I don't like not having Swype. I for sure dislike the mechanical home button, but I think I'll eventually get over that.

Size and weight is great, you drop it into your pants front picket and it disappears. I use the Samsung flip case that adds almost nothing to the thickness of the phone.

I would prefer to blend some of the touch wiz with some of the aosp from the Nexus, but really it's not over bearing. My biggest gripe with TW is that you must create folders if you wasn't to stack application icons where ad the Nexus let you just place them one on another on another with no ugly folders.

This seems to charge very slow and the charger surprised me as being a 1 ma output rather than something like a 1.2 - 1.4 ma that would hasten the charge time.

There are no show stopping items that have me second guessing at this point.

Why don't you have Swype? I had it on my old Dinc and had the apk stored on my SD card. I installed it from the SD Card on the S3 and I was off and running.

I give Samsung credit for trying to emulate Swype. But the auto-correcting feature was really lacking, and you couldn't "long press" to get alternate letters/numbers. Instead, you had to switch with the shift or alt button. With Swype, you can long press, say the "S" letter and get a "$". Much faster.

Absolutely agree! Let's hope you can place as many apps in the folders as you want though, unlike vanilla ICS.

And 7h 40m of moderate use with 32% battery left, that's a win coming from the Nexus any way you slice it. Hope it gets better after conditioning (if that really does matter anymore)always been skeptical of that.

Am i the only one who actually thinks the physical home button not only gives it a nice touch cosmetically, but its availability as another option to quickly wake the screen up rather than trying to hit the power button all the time is super beneficial??

Not only do I like the physical home button, I am sure Samsung must have had some good reason for changing back from the touch sensitive button on the Nexus. Maybe customer feedback?
 
I have only had it for 24 hrs now and so far I'm very impressed. A big improvement over my HTC Thunderbolt. More to follow as I get comfortable with all this thing can do.
 
I've had my GS3 (International) for 2 & half weeks now and for the 1st few days I was very unimpressed with it. In fact I was regretting giving my HTC Desire HD to my step son:( (Birthday present).

After a week however I think it's the best phone out there. I even quite like Touchwiz, although I'm using Apex launcher as I believe a screen this big has to have 5 rows on the homescreens for apps.

Very fast, Fantastic display, Great battery life (2days 7hrs 23mins with 3hrs 47mins screen on time) and looks sooo good in Blue:D

Yeah, you would think right? But even with the S2, I absolutely HAD TO have the international version for the home button for the exact same reasons stated above in my previous post. But it seemed like the majority wanted the 4 touch sensitive buttons instead... I never really understood why (maybe the simpler look?)... I personally think without the home button they all look way too alike. But the wake-up part of it is whats the most important.

Glad to know im not the only one that thinks this way though. lol
