Do we not update, and wait for someone to mod it for rooted phones?

I only ask this because we don't have access to the Kernel.

There are at least two 2.2 ROM for the Milestone based on a ROM leaked from Motorola.

One is GOT and one is Cyanogen.

2.2 will be rootable from the moment it arrives, it already is.

...that's good to know guys. I was pondering the issue myself. Being rooted, overclocked, and with LauncherPro, everything is so good and smooth and fast right now. Do I want to mess that up?

Will we have to un-root first, before the update?

Some say no, but I tried last time I had a custom ROM on and it bricked it lol. So I will stock everything and then update to it and then slowly add my stuff again. There might be a easier way but I only suggest and do what I know of course.

My understanding is MOTO's lock on the Kernel couldn't be hacked, so the current 2.2 Rom's are not TRUE 2.2's, they're more like a overlay on top of the 2.1 rom.

So do I need to update to the official 2.2 (next year) to get a true 2.2 rom, or is the current GOT and CYANOGEN going to update the kernel to 2.2 as well?

Sorry for the noob question, I'm still trying to understand the milestone situation.

Yes the current ROM's are not using the true 2.2 update due to the fact of the locked bootloader. I'm sure once 2.2 comes out everyone will come out with their own custom tweak with the new kernel

You guys are sorely misinformed. The current 2.2 ROMs are built off the 2.2.1 update released for testing in Europe, and IS in fact 2.2 (this is the reason you have to Flash the 2.2 SBF file and re-root before installing a ROM, and apply radio file updates, as the rest of us don't use European radio files). The previous ROMs such as CM6 (October 10/16/2010 and earlier) and Dexters MotoFrenzy were 2.2 overlays over 2.1, but now have been upgraded to ACTUAL 2.2, along with G.O.T.

TelusMilestone, PLEASE stop spreading this misinformation in every single 2.2 ROM related thread. You consistently show your lack of knowledge concerning them.
