soft bricked my g1... :(

the problem is,m when i hole home+power its blank... i can only get to my recovery if i go thru the 1 click root and reboot to recovery... is that supposed to happen?

Flashing an .nbh like rc29 is camera and power, the rest are the update.zip by home and power, on cmrecovery and newer you have the option of flash any zip as long as they are on the main folder of your sd.
You get down to firmware1.0 with rc29 than you exploit a security issue with the telnt but one click root goes through it another way, it provides you with a modified recovery image(cmrecovery1.4) once you are in the recovery you apply any zi hard spl which is a modified bootloader than you reboot back into recovery, fllash the apd1.6, than flash cyan4.1.2 than it reboots while writing the radio image , then once back in recovery, wipe option than reboot and you are done

After flashing the ADP1.6 he's going to have to either have the cm build renamed to update.zip to flash it or reflash the recovery first as the 1.6 recovery image will wipe the cm recovery back to stock ADP and reinstall the radio...

I have never heard of ADP1.6 doing that, even cyanogen himself says to do it this way.

Just tried it again to confirm... if you select the if you select the recovery image (signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip) from the HTC site: HTC - Developer Center it will install bring you back to your recovery you need to reboot to install the radio and then it brings you back to recovery again which for me seems to always be the stock ADP after flashing it... and i've done it at least a dozen times... perhaps its my phone but it does happen... just something to be aware of i suppose...

Yes you can get to it after you do that. Then do everything else he said. If you ever want to get to recovery again you just reboot your phone with power+menu+phone then quickly let go of menu and phone and hold home+power.

Hmm not really sure. I actually just flashed 4.2.1 today and never lost CM Recovery 1.3.1 when doing so.

@noonehereyet, when you flash adp1.6 you flash cm right away before rebooting, you do not need to reboot right after adp1.6, once you hit reboot it writes the radio, just tested and confirmed, so you never lose your recovery image

Thats what i get for following the directions that were released on day 1.... So its the second reboot that causes that... good to know....

Soda - Sorry if I side tracked the thread a bit.... let us know where your at and if you need more help.... worst comes to worst as long as you can get to the fastboot, I can wipe my G1 and nandroid and put the images on my server so you can flash known working images via fastboot of 4.2.2 to your phone....

Something went very wrong... lol. I'm using like a hybrid build or something... its like the functionality of the v1.0 firmware, but it has the visual style and aesthetic look of 1.6!! There is no soft keyboard, I can't press the call button and make a call or look at contacts. Also, I am not rooted somehow. I have all the files on my sd card that I was given initially by u guys that got me here... so what happened haha..

ok give us a run down of what is says...

check your recovery let us know what recovery your running... then check your phone let us know the build number, mod version, kernel version, Baseband and firmware... might just need to reflash the build but i want to see where your at before you do anything........

Well I'm doing all this on my g1 and can't edit the last post so ignore it.

Forceware: 1.6
Baseband Version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.29.6-cm42shade@toxygene )
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-4.2.1
Build Version: DRC83

That's all I got for ya.

well if thats what is shows than you should be good have you tested your root? and what do you mean the ui is different? and are you sure the virtual keyboard is selected?

I have no setting to select a soft keyboard, as if I were using v1.0. When I go to contacts it force closes. I am not rooted. I can't run su commands and can't tether. Anything else needed? Really not sure if I have covered it all. You guys are great though, so once again, much appreciated.

its in settings > Locale & Text > make sure where it says android keyboard is checked?

and for your su... open your terminal emulator you should see the prompt like $ type su amd hit enter and you should get # , if that isnt the case then i would say you should check your whitelist / superuser open that and clear that list and try running you su again this time you should be prompted to allow, allow always, deny or deny always... that should fix the issue

okay guys, im glad i figured it out. im currently sitting with my G1, the new 4GB class4 sd card is super fast, im sitting comfy with my cyanogen 4.2.1 rooted, im super happy because i can use my tether and have internet at home again!

I dont know if there was a corrupt unpacking/installation, but i did all the steps in the same order again and things turned out great. The good thing is i learned a lot in the process, and hey, my phone is now where i wanted it to be in the first place! It may have taken a day, but i dont mind.

And thanks to everyone, im super glad to see this forum more active again :D

rather than making a new thread, since everyone knows where i am at here, can someone answer one more question? Im gonna do the small step up from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2... it says that if im already at 4.1.999 then all i "...have to do is flash!" I quote. So do i just download the file down at the bottom with the main download and the mirror, then rename it and flash it?

Edit:Yes, thats all i had to do, haha. Thanks guys! From nothing to 4.2.2 stable, quick, and everything i ever wanted! :D hope someone can use this thread to learn from my mistakes! Solved :P
