Help Soft keys driving me crazy. help.

It's clearly not just a feature of that update though, as I'm using it without such effects (or some of the other things that are more common in the reviews there). The problem is working out what the other factor(s) might be.

But then it's not obvious what is improved with the newer version anyway, so maybe no loss in using the stock one.

I wondered if it might be a combo of my settings/apps and the update. But at least a couple of other reviewers mentioned the buttons sliding away so I guess it's possible they also have the same combination of problem apps/settings.
