Software on Asus Site

In another thread, a link was posted to the page where you can download the user manuals and software for the Prime.

So I started looking at the PC Tools package that contains the USB drivers and a number of utilities to go with the transformer. But what I noticed was that the download file is a ".rar" file -- hardly the type of file that a typical PC user can open. I can scrounge around for an archiver program, but I would hope that they repost this file as a .exe or even a .zip file (the separate USB driver package is a ZIP file).

I am going to use my Transformer for app development and will need at least the USB drivers working ASAP after I get it.

scrounge around for an archive program?! i deal with .rar files everyday i would say they are pretty common.....winRAR of 7zip can open those, and they are free.

I'm talking about a non-techie person -- Joe User who only knows to download a file and double-click it. On my standard Windows 7 PC, there's no native program that opens a RAR file (unlike EXE and ZIP files).

I'm not sure what else to suggest...you can easily get a copy of winRAR to open the files and then repackage them into a .zip or .exe if that is what your main goal is.

I guess i don't understand what exactly you are trying to accomplish or who your target audience is with your development.

If you are going to have to instruct someone to install usb drivers for their device you could tell them to download and install a program that will open the .rar files, or simply repackage them yourself and provide them for download. My honest feeling is if someone is going to the trouble of installing usb drivers they could probably figure out how to open a .rar file.

i would also guess that once the tablet is actually available that ASUS would provide a CD that contains some drives..

I think he's just griping about it, not asking for help. So, pretty much a useless thread. Non-techie ppl know how to use google, so problem solved.
