You can flash any stock, Samsung, firmware for your make and model of phone using Odin and do not need to be rooted to do so. In fact, if you are rooted, flashing the stock, Samsung, firmware with the stock kernel, will un-root you.

However, if you flash any stock, Samsung, firmware other than that intended for your phones original CSC, (Consumer Software Customisation), code and region, you will be unable to update via Kies or OTA, (Over The Air) and will void the terms of your warranty.

To locate your CSC code, go to the dial pad and enter...

*#1234#

and you will see your CSC code which are the 3 letters after the model number. The last 3 letters are the firmware version that you are currently on and can be varied within the aforementioned parameters, to flash the latest or a previous firmware build, without affecting the ability to receive updates via Kies or OTA or voiding your warranty.

Stock, Samsung, firmware can be downloaded, after registration, from SamMobile.
