Help Software update messed up my phone?

Hey, had my samsung galaxy s3 for a few months (first smart phone I've had)

Anyway last week I got a notifaction asking me to install a software update, but that I needed to be connected to a wifi connection before it would begin.

So when I got home and connected to the wifi I let it install the update, it downloaded something, then switched my phone off and came up with a black screen and a picture of a green android thing, with a loading bar saying installing the update.

After it finished, on every screen I was getting the new 'tips' messages again (swipe screen to unlock, tick box to not show this message again etc) I also noticed the internet is different, the refresh browser button (refresh icon), used to be bigger and on the left hand side at the top of the browser, now it's smaller next to the url on the righthand side etc.

My phone has also been really slow and 'clunky' at times, ever since installing this update. When clicking on my 'apps' button there is about a 3 second delay and it comes up with a blank screen for a few seconds before all my apps show. It's the same when I'm typing a text, the buttons don't respond straight away after I click on them, again there is few seconds delay, then it comes with about 5 of the letters I was clicking on. (because I clicked it about 5 times because it wasn't responding)

I'm worried I've let it install something unofficial that's messed with my phone?

Did anybody else get a software update recently? And is there anyway I can reverse back? I never had any problems before, the phone ran smoother than anything.

(it's 02 pay as you go) on the about device screen in the settings it says:

Model Number: GT-I9300
Android version: 4.1.1
Baseband version: I9300BWDLI1
Kernel version: 3.0.31-256827
Build number: JR003C.I9300XXDLIH

i have the very same problem with messaging since update everything else seems to be fine , its starting to annoy me takes a few seconds to update a message that has come in and flickers when entering and exiting messaging.

i don't know how to solve this i have restarted the device twice and in developer options scale settings which are at all at .5x

i have also cleared the messaging cache

any help would be great :)
