I'm getting a software update message for my Note 4 , how do I tell if it is for MM ?

Look under Previous Updates and there looks like two between yours and the latest.

I can't decide for you. And I don't have a Note 4. You'll have to see what Marshmallow features and whether you want to forward with it or not. More reading for you....
