what is the latest software version available for the xperia x10i and is it easy to download

Most Android devices update the same way. Open your settings (on phones, you push the menu button first), then go to Software Updates (at the bottom) and there will be a "Check for Updates" option. This button may be under "System Information" or something similar. Moving this post to the Sony Xperia X10 section so they can give you more specific instructions.

Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates.
