[SOLVED] A question about the android scanner

I am new here and fairly new to android. I'm a die-hard linux user.

My first impression of a barcode scanner on android was a special LED and you swipe across the barcodes. But I was wrong.

On youtube I saw people taking snapshots at QR codes and barcodes.

Does this means that all you need is a built-in camera and a barcode app? Or am I misinform?

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks
