[SOLVED] Domain names with dash (-) symbol cannot be resolved

Hi,

I have searched many forums, googled the problem in different wordings, still there does not seem to be one thread or article addressing a similar issue.

The following happens:

Whenever I type a domain name, that contains a dash symbol (-) in any browser on my Galaxy S3, I get a server not found error. I tried with stock browser, Firefox, Chrome and Boat browser, same result everywhere. No matter what domain name, may it be a well-known website or an obscure one. Also, When I try to register an email account, where the domain has a dash symbol, the email address is not recognised as an email address.. (i.e.: please type your email address error message occurs).

Interestingly enough, when I select a hyper-link that redirects to a dash domain, that would work with no problem...

I cannot verify if this is handset-specific, as I have no access to another android device at the moment...

Any suggestions anyone? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Don't have an email address to try, but I'm not having this problem with Boat or Xscope on my HTC, so it might be model specific.

Wish I had more info for you, sorry.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. in the meantime I solved my own problem. :D

It turns out the keyboard I was using (A.I. type keyboard free) is not sending the dash symbol correctly for some reason. Switching back to Samsung keyboard I am able to connect to any site or register an email. Strange enough. I am now filing a bug report to the developer of the app.

Had issues with the kb before (arrow keys are not functional in any VNC viewer), should have thought it will be that again... but those KBs are just sooo pretty. :p

Is there a way to mark this thread as "solved"?

Thanks,

A.
