Root [SOLVED] HELP! No Home Button on Gingerbread CM7-Ascend 05142011

Hello there! I was finally able to root and install a custom ROM thanks to your instructions and helpful advice (here is the original thread http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/714772-urgent-help-dumb-question.html#post5786050 , I know its been a while. This ROM is great however a few issues arose and I am going to post them separately as I am sure that it would help others right on the tittle who might be experiencing the same problems with this ROM and who could benefit from the same solutions or work arounds (if there are any).


Well, as the tittle says I have no home button!

If I want to go back to the main screen/Home screen/ Main Menu/Launcher (whatever it's called) I have to press the backwards arrow on the bottom of the phone repeatedly until I'm finally back at the main home screen. This is a major inconvenience and loss of functionality compared to the stock ROM yet I would keep it because of the gains though I am positive that this is not how this ROM it was meant to operate.
I went through the settings to see if there was a way to "tune up/personalize/customize" the interface but found nothing relevant.

I have two exact phones rooted and loaded with the same ROM both going through the same issue!

You have to reassign the home key in the spare parts app.

Thanks skrapmetal, you pointed me in the right direction. I went to cyanogemnode settings and everywhere else in the settings and found no way to get the "Home button" to get back its intended function. It takes me by surprise that the developer of the ROM for this phone (who did such a great job on everything else) would have thought convenient to leave the "Home Button" assigned to shut the screen off by default!

In the mean time I would have never guessed what the spare parts app was and looked for it only after skrapmetal's reply. (In fact I didn't even know it was in the phone at all).

For those newbies who might have the same problem as I (a newbie myself) did, here is the way to do it as the "Home Button" is not even referred to as such by the Spare Parts App so I was dumbfounded for a little while:

To restore the Home Button's functionality after flashing CM7-Ascend 05142011:
1. Look for the Spare Parts App (It is in your phone included in the ROM) listed as an app with all your other apps alphabetically sorted (See pic below)

Note: The phone in the pic is not your Ascend but it shows the icon in question
2. Look in the Spare Parts App for an item called "End button behavior" and "click" on it
3. In the meno seleect "Go to home"

You are done press the "Home button" do something else!
