I was annoyed to find I couldn't access my SD card with es file explorer. After a few hours found an easy root solution so thought would post as more common towelroot app wasn't compatible with my phone. My s3 is the lte version but the rooting might work with other models and Android kernels. Follow the link for Kingroot. You can also search on YouTube for a video that I hit. Here's the link and don't be put off with being in Chinese as Just need to click on the dark blue download link.
