SOLVED: how to use ACE as disk drive without KIES?

When trying to connect via a USB cable, the computer does not recognizes my ACE. I can see the drive's icon but it is not mounted to the computer. Only when Samsung KIES is running in the background, then my computer recognizes and mounts the ACE as should be. When I exit KIES the ACE is dismounted as well.
How should I connect to a computer via USB, without the need for KIES?

Please advice.

P.S. Problem solved: All I had to do was to slide Notifications and enable USB connection
