Root [SOLVED]s-off? My issues

So as it has been announced in this thread:

http://androidforums.com/one-m8-all-things-root/839885-s-off-here.html

s-off is here. And as stated in that thread it is easily done on an Ubuntu box. I posted some of my problems in the main xda thread here:

xda-developers - View Single Post - [GUIDE] How To S-Off; Permanent Root; Custom Recovery

and thought, well, I'll just do it on my Ubuntu laptop. But no! I still have the same message. issuing a

Code:
 adb devices

command with the phone on my Ubuntu box still brings up a serial number but shows my device as offline.

Before I go through with this I want to make sure that both adb and fastboot will show my devices' serial # and stuff. But showing it offline is a problem for me.

Help?

TIA

You've also used weaksauce to obtain root, disabled Fastboot in Power Settings, enabled Developer Options, and enabled USB debugging in the Developer Options menu? Also, as far as screen locking is concerned, the issue is that any lock settings you've enabled need to be disabled, not whether the screen is currently locked. I'm sure you understand that, but sometimes the weirdest things trip people up ;)

wake the phone up and watch it. you should get a pop up making sure you want to allow this computer access. checkmake the little always box.

i had some issue with that as well

@ Dodge DeBoulet: Yes, done all that. Enabling usb debugging and unknown sources is one of the first things I do to any android device.

@scotty85: That's the funny thing. I've never gotten that popup on my phone. I even went back to developer options and revoked all previous usb authorizations to see if it would popup again. Maybe that is the mistake? And if so, how otherwise to fix?

Really appreciate the help here folks! I've never had this much trouble. And just to be clear, I want to make sure that my adb and fastboot is working and drivers installed before I actually go through the process.

Edit: the only popup I get is on my windoz box that has a vzw and htc logo in it and says "Software is available that will help you Android phone communicate with your PC. Install now?" And a browser window opens for VZW Backup assistant. I have been answering 'No' on the one and closing the browser. I have uninstalled HTC Sync from my windoz risght after installing the drivers and before ever pluggin my phone in.

Hoping that additional info is of some help.

Well, I guess I made a real rookie mistake. I have so many different versions of adb and fastboot on my windoz box, I finally found the right version and upon my adb devices command the popup occurred on my device and now I am on my way. Did a adb reboot bootloader. Good. Drivers installed. Fastboot devices success. The funny thing is that is was not in the folder containing the adb mini from the xda guide for s-off . . . . .

. . . . . on my way now . . . . .

Whulp, I'm pretty drunk now. Having chugged five bottles of firewater I am now s-off. Flashed the unofficial CWM and the supersu .zip. Off to the races now, backups and then who know?

Will mark this thread as [Solved]
