Edit: It turned out my SD card is the culprit. I backed up all my things, formatted the card and only put in my music. I then tested the music player and everything was working fine.
Hi.
I recently got an S3 LTE and it seems that no matter what the music player I use, it will always be very sluggish in performance. Lists for a lot of artistes will cause hiccups, sometimes even causing the player to not respond and force close. If it helps, my music is stored on a class 4 SD card, but I've never had such problems with my old HTC Desire.
Some files in particular take an extremely long time to load. On the stock music player, the screen goes black and after around ~20 seconds the OS will prompt to force close it because it isn't responding. If I wait for it long enough (which, as of last try, takes around a minute or two), the player's UI will show up and will finally start loading the album list, which again takes quite some time. During this time, the UI cannot be interacted with, and depending on the time, I will be prompted to FC the app again. All the while, the phone remains responsive. If I hit the home button, the app will be minimized. Smart Stay also occasionally comes on as it detects that I'm looking at the phone. The notification pane also works as intended if I pull it down.
I have found that on some occasions (if not all), subsequent to this slowdown period, if I open the artiste up again even after some time, it will do so within a reasonable period of time until the next time the player closes. While typing this thread, I have not been able to replicate this because the stock player simply refuses to load it; it will continue to try to load while FC prompts occasionally pop up.
When I do manage to load up these files, attempting to play the files will fail on Rocket Player, but will work on the stock player. However, the screen will be black again, and force closing the player will not stop the music until about half a minute later.
One particular song (by Adam Lambert) showed up as "unknown artiste", which I thought may be significant because it may indicate that something is wrong with the ID3 tags or something. I have just used MP3Tag to clear away all tags except those standard (titles, album, etc.) but have not tested it yet, so I'll update accordingly if this isn't already a known problem.
I also thought it may be a problem with the files' integrity so I used MP3 Validator to check the file out, but it returned nothing.
Hope someone has a solution. The phone is amazing and save for some decrease in FPS here and there (which I can totally live with), it would be perfect. This just makes the whole experience very painful because I can't live without my music.
Edit: I'm in Singapore and I got what I believe to be the South Korean variant of the phone; 2GB RAM and quad-core processor.
Edit: I just tried my SD card on my friend's phone (exact same model) and it hung too. This leads me to believe that I have 2 defective devices (which I think is highly improbable), or there's something wrong with my SD card. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with my SD card? It doesn't really make sense to me that the SD card suddenly slows down. In fact, this morning, I still used it to play music on my old device.
