<solved> Unlock phone without ending call

I have a galaxy nexus (JB 4.2 YAKJU) that I use with a 3.5 analogue headset. The problem is that when using this headset if the screen goes off (phone locks) I can't figure out how to unlock it since clicking the lock button will turn the screen on but also end the call.

How do you unlock your phone during a call without ending the call?

If I don't use the headset it never locks and the screen only turns off while the proximity sensor is activated which is fine but with the headset there are problems.

After the normal timeout period the screen turns off and locks. Even if I unplug the headset the screen stays off and locked. Headset is a standard 2 channel stereo headset with a 1 channel inline mic with mic button. The button mutes the mic on short press and a long press ends the call but neither of these functions work while the screen is locked.

Honestly I would like a way to make the lock button not end calls if that's an option but I haven't found one anywhere.

[edit] I just tested against my home phone and corrected a few incorrect statements.

Solved! Found the option. It's under the accessability options screen. I don't get why the option wouldn't be under the caller app but whatever. If anyone else is having this problem you can find the option to turn it on or off under the accessibility menu.
