Help Some questions regarding E4GT

MANswers

Lurker
Hi guys,

A hardcore apple fanboy, i recently found myself using this phone, and so far loving it.
I have a couple of questions regarding the phone.
Why am i not getting notifications on the Facebook app? I still have my iphone, and as soon as someone posts on my wall, or sends me a pm, i get instant notifications on my iphone, but dont see them on the E4TG.?
Am i missing something?

The weather widget on the screen does not automatically refresh itself. If i click the refresh icon in the day time, the status remains the same at night as well, unless i click the refresh button to see the current status.

Please help me understand if i am missing something.

There are couple of more questions, i will shoot them, as i see responses to my dilemma.

Cant help you with the f app.

In regards to the Weather Widget, click on the center of it, hit menu, hit settings, then auto refresh. You can select how often it automatically updates.

If you want Great weather widgets (among other great widgets), download Beautiful Widgets. Far more customization is available with this.

+1 This. In Beautiful Widgets, you can download dozens of clock and weather skins and make it look JUST like you want it.

Thanks for your reply. This resolves the weather widget problem,

@kenn and thanks for the tip. Lovely widgets.

Anyone knows why facebook does not auto update, or send notifications??

have you gone under your settings in your facebook app and make sure that notifications was checked on?

And if you want to make sure your battery doesn't last half as long as your iPhone, set your apps to auto update.

It's up to you, but many Android users only set absolutely required apps to auto update, if any, because of the significant battery drain. I personally would rather update weather as needed. Welcome aboard though.

Although it seems that the battery on this phone lasts significantly longer than my Evo 4G ever dreamed of. That is with updating happening.

Thanks for that tip buddy, i am still in the learning process with these Android phones.. there is so much in these phones as compared to the iphones. This is fun. I have turned on the notification, and the ringtone for the new msgs, now waiting for a new message. :)

Mate, can you guide me on how to do this?? I could not find the settings to auto update the apps the phone.. :(

Auto update settings are in the Market app. Go to your apps and then select an app. There is a check box for auto updating.

I believe auto updating is off by default.

Thanks for that tip mate. Will doing this for all the apps, drain a lot of battery??
Or will the autoupdate only work when the phone is being charged?

Guys, i have another question here, and this one is bugging me the most. Does the phone out of the box has color settings set to extreme?
The pictures/photos on my phone, looks extremely red/yellowish. An example.. Its like when you have the color settings set to high on your TV/LCD... and you have to tone it down...
Is there something that i need to do to make the colors look more natural??

Three setting are available:

Menu=>Settings=>Display=>Screen Mode=> Dynamic/Standard/Movie

I tried that already, I am not sure if this still resolves the issue, the pics are not as natural as its supposed to be, there is still too much colorization. Dynamic is completely out of question, standard and movie is still better, what is the most preferable mode by you guys??

I prefer to use Standard for a more realistic look without being overwhelming.

As for Facebook, have you considered any third party apps? I use Friendcaster, and I love it.

Thanks for the tip, i will try friendcaster and let you know my thoughts.

Another question though, is any other way to wake up the phone other than pressing the button on the top right corner. I found this a little bit ackward, pulling the phone from ur pocket, and holding the phone in a specific position to wake up the phone. Its easier to tap on the screen or below (the original s2 way)
