Help Some Text Messages Include "Download" Button

McPhenius

Lurker
I'm new to Android, coming from years of iPhone use. I'm happy I made the switch, but I'm still learning.

I went with the HTC One X via AT&T.

I started to notice on a few texts I would receive from others, they would come in with a button to "download" - no video or picture attachments. I did some research and found this thread from December 2011 stating iPhone group messages may be causing it. (May not post link because I am new user, but it's similar case I found here)

One of the text that I usually always get as a "download" option is from a online service provider that provides text updates of news events. So technically they are going out as a group I am sure, but I am thinking they are going out from servers, not a iPhone.

What I didn't see in the linked thread above was a solution. Is there a way to force the text app to automatically download the message? I currently use Handcent's SMS app and I have the default Android text app disabled. However, the download button shows up on both programs. I tried to find a setting to automatically download, but the only thing I could find close was in Handcent's options to automatically download attachments, which I assume would be pictures/videos.

Thanks in advance!

Could be an iPhony causing it. My wife has an iPhony and whenever she sends a text I get the download button.

I can agree with that. The one person I got a text from that gave me the download button is a iPhone user. However, he can't remember if the text he sent was to just me or a group. Another iPhone user friend and my wife (who has the original iPhone 3G) it doesn't happen.

What I am curious about really is the online news to text service I receive. I get about four or five text a day on news as it relates to my work (think of AP sending text to phone), but those all have download buttons each time. I don't recall this last Thursday when I first got the phone and set up everything, but I could be mistaken.

I just wasn't sure how a large news provider sending automated text would be related to a possible iPhone to Android issue.

I had that problem but once I contacted AT&T about the issue, they were able to fix it. I also came to the HOX from the iPhone 4s.

So, I am getting the same thing. My friends who have iPhones text me and I get a message saying something like "Message size: 37KB. Expires: February 4, 11:55AM". I have a "Download" button and a "Reject" button. When I click the "Download" button, then the buttons go away and the text "Downloading..." shows for a couple seconds and then the buttons show back up. I also then get a message saying "Text message not received".

I have a Motorola Photon 4G (yeah, I know it's old - blah blah blah) and I am using the default Android Text Messaging program.

I believe that it is related to the fact that the sender is an iPhone user and it may be part of a group message. What I would like to know is what I can do so I can download these messages without requiring the sender to change the way he is sending things out. Is there any kind of settings on my phone I can set?

McPhenius, did you ever get your's to download your messages?
