Some thoughts on iOS vs Android

Zero lag? I would debate that..from talking to friends and messing around with their iPhones there is definitely lag. The difference is that it is consistent across all apps and built into their "UI experience"...they hide lag with transition effects for everything.

He wanted to compare TTL for some apps. Taking the facebook app as an example, I was starting to type my status update before his had finished loading. He has expressed regular disappointment at having to wait for things to load..but, like he says, he waits basically the same length of time for each and every app he loads.

Speaking as an ex-gamer, the best comparison I can give would be an Android is a PC and an iPhone is a console.

Damn, can't believe I am still getting dragged in lol

Thank you grainysand for proving my theory that unless you are a full blown programmer (or a prick) android is not for you!

While you may be right about the prick part, I disagree with the programmer part. As far as working with Android within the GUI, its pretty easy. If anything, all you need to do is follow instructions that you can find on this forum, or do a little exploring on your own. Even doing things through a command line is easy. Just follow the instructions given and type exactly what you are told.

Now, hotswapping an IDE hard drive with an original Xbox to a PC while both are running with perfect timing, completely in a Linux command shell on the PC, while risking the possibility of bricking the Xbox, is a LOT more daunting then working with Android.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree, Both my wifes old 3GS and her new 4 are consistent across the board. Any phone with a 100 apps is gonna drag a little, i agree that the iphone is no speed demon but it is consistently fast. However they mask it, is not important, the only way I have found to stop lag on my captivate was to install OCLF or upgrade to 2.2. I just had my wife launch facebook to see how long it took and it was pretty much instantaneous. I know alot of people with Iphones, and I gotta say, there is generally no complaints from that group of phone zombies. Also service has alot to do with the performance of a phone and on wifi the Iphone is pretty ridiculous.I have spent quite some time messing around with these phones and although its not for me, slow is not this phones problem. My wifes ipod touch really aint that slow, I use it just for games to save my battery, and from angry birds to playlist the thing just functions well.

I gotta be honest in some cases your comparison of android as a pc to the apple as a console, may not be a good one.

I don't think you have to fiddle and tweak settings in an Android phone to make it work. I work with two girls who have Android phones (D2 and DX) and love them. Neither of them are computer savvy at all. I showed them a custom boot screen I put on my phone long before I rooted it. Neither of them have any idea how to do that with adb shell nor are they inclined to. They're not tech savvy. They both ask me sometimes how to do XYZ with their phones yet both love their phones.

I'm a power user. I have a rooted phone and I flash ROMS stable and otherwise. The thing with iOS is you can't do this. Even on a jailbroken iPhone you're still locked in to the same basic experience. It's all about what experience you want. Personally I think stock iOS is more user friendly than stock Android, but not by much. You can figure out how to use Android and you don't have to have a doctorate to do so. It's not that hard. But you have none of the customizability in iOS that you do in Android. Stock Android is far, far more customizable than stock iOS.

I agree, you can do more with android, i do it all the time, i have my phone rooted too, i set up my own servers at home etc etc...i just set up my ftp server with wol and it works great...i never had to try 5 different apps for one
need I had because they all had incompatibilities or quirks, ie facebook or sms apps, iphone just worked, worked everytime and fast..
