Something smells fishy about this

I have to ask... and this is me strictly...... not speaking for anyone else ........ where exactly did you get this notion?

Please point me to any citation ANYWHERE that states the purpose of taxation is to punish undesireable behaviour.

I'm as stunned as you are.

Perhaps "undesirable behavior" is not the proper terminology, but I think I see where he is coming from.

We tend to give tax BREAKS for "desirable" activities, such as starting a family, buying a house, driving a fuel efficient vehicle. I prefer to look at it more this way, namely because many things that are taxed are not done so because they are undesirable. I will admit, I see no reason to tax tobacco more heavily than any other odd thing outside of the fact that it is "undesirable" though.

absolutely........ the same way that people who drive electric cars should be taxed....... arent they depriving the govt of gas taxes? what about the children?

Yes they are. And those people with kids, less taxes for them to pay, those loophole using tax cheaters. What

Don't know why you feel it necessary to "bait". I knew not a few Canadian soldiers who would love to discuss personally with you regarding your view toward them.

Geezers lighten up, will ya? I have respect for the RCMP and most cops and all Canadian military members. Geezers Louisers, forget one smiley, and how things change.

going to work is bad, that's why they take 1/3 of my paycheck in taxes.

You're a fool and a sucker if you work for a living.

Better to have a pile of money to invest in hedge funds, CDOs, currency speculation, etc. - the tax rate on capital gains is 15%. Or 0% (or less!) if you do it under the foreign investment tax credit.

i actually like going to work....

i do good things, for good people. it's quite satisfying. maybe one day i will luck into a big pile o' money, then i can do all of that.

I've noticed an interesting increase in the occurrence of the word "crude". What am I supposed to make of this?
