Help Something's gone wrong...

Hello everyone,
First off I'm Roscoe...
Secondly I'd like to say I'm sorry because I am not the most tech savvy person by any means so my questions/concerns will probably be best solved with someone who has patients...
Third I'd like to say in advance... Thank you for the help...

Okay so, basically I am having some problems with my RAZR since I updated the system software this morning... I don't know if it's the ICS (Don't know what that is actually) I just got or something else...
The noted, and found problems so far are as follows...
(NEW PROBLEMS)
Multiple app freezing/force closing
-Facebook
-Facebook messenger
-Voxer
-Heywire
-My Music
and
-Youtube

all freeze and force close sometimes immediately sometimes shortly after opening...

Those are the apps I know about... I don't know if there's more, but I'd be reluctant to say that those are all that's effected...

I have tried shutting the phone down and powering back up... I have checked for updates on all apps and they're all current.

In any app that requires me to use my touchscreen qwerty keypad about 3/5 of the time the "buttons" don't respond or lag (if you will)... then will "catch up" rather quickly... the other 2/5 of the time the little box/window where what I type is supposed to show up, doesn't even show. It will type out words and give my predicted words but won't go in the box, also rendering whatever I type invalid.

My initial thought was that my new software didn't DL/Install properly... so I decided to try a system default restore... The phone says "unmounting internal storage" with the circling circle... but will do nothing else, and literally stops as if nothing had happened if the screen is touched.

MY BIG CATCH IS THAT THIS PHONE IS CURRENTLY NOT IN SERVICE
I do not have a verizon or any other carrier account...
The phone, and all apps, worked flawlessly before the update, and if I do a FACTORY restore I know it will ask me to "activate" the phone with verizon again, which I cannot do...

So... any suggestions? Questions? Help?

Mine was acting the same way. I turned off my phone and let it sit for about 5 minutes. I then turned it on and noticed it was downloading updates for 5 apps. I just let the phone sit for about 15 minutes until everything finished and now it is fine.

ICS is causing me nothing but grief as well on my RAZR. Maybe I updated wrong because for 3 hours the darn thing was stuck on "loading applications" so I did a hard reset which then got me back into the phone and let ICS load with a successful install message. Since then, just garbage.

Google Play Music won't read my SD card with my MP3s correctly anymore
Facebook app won't load
Smart Dock app won't load
Battery life is even worse
Initially my contacts and texts were missing until a few power cycles...

Any ideas other than a factory reset? All apps are up to date. I've cleared the cache of the apps not playing nice and uninstalled/reinstalled the app or the updates to the app (in the case of Facebook)

Back when i had my Eris I had similar problems after a system upgrade... a factory reset was the only thing that worked for me

Mine is running so hot it keeps tripping the thermal circuit so I can't even charge the thing unless I turn it completely off. And the battery is draining so fast I can't use the thing! I mean it's burning, literally, right through the batt! Going through every app to see if one is screwed up. The thing got stuck on 'starting apps' for a hour so I had to hard reboot to get it up.

Maybe the ICS fairies heard my rage last night but the dock app, facebook, and music all work now... Weird, so very very weird...

Okay... well, after leaving it powered off all night... still no improvement on any applications.

My keypad issues seems to have gotten worse... still won't display what I type only now it's 4/5 times...

Noted today that my razr is also getting VERY hot... as in I can feel the heat through my jeans...

Battery was fully charged at 10 am... "connect charger" notification by 12:30 with LITTLE use at all... (As stated in OP, I have no service to this phone, no calls, no 3g/4g, no texts... I use it as a pocket pc basically... connected via wifi...

Still haven't heard or seen any new ideas for a fix... I LOVE this phone, and up until this terrible update I could go 3 days on a charge, with never an issue (okay pre update the only issue was photos/videos getting corrupted occasionally)

Someone help... :(

That's what I'm doing presently, resetting. Sucks totally.....should have stayed with GB....
Why? It's not ICS that caused the problem, it's just the nature of software upgrades that they don't always take properly without a reset. ICS is a much, much better OS than GB, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do when this stuff is all over with. It runs very smoothly on my phone, and I was lucky enough not to have to do a reset.

Ics is a MAJOR upgrade. Thinks are gonna go wrong. Apps won't be compatible. A reset will fix your problems. Why else would mine be perfect lol

Go into settings>>apps>>all apps, scroll thru and find the apps giving you issues, clear the data and cache, you should be good to go.

Settings, battery.

You probably have something chewing up the cpu and hopefully it will show.

Hard to internet diag, you could have 1,000 weird apps installed and we wouldn't know!

That happened to me too, especially with the music not reading correctly. To fix it for each and every app, at the home screen press the menu soft key->manage apps->downloaded->(your app here)->clear cache->clear data. Check your apps afterward. If it doesn't work, restart the phone. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the app. If everything fails, check to see if whatever app keeps giving you problems is ICS compatible

I am sorry I can't give specific details as to what the fix is, but I was having similar if not worse issues after the update...I couldn't even type, the keyboard just typed random letters and symbols.

Anyhow, a tech savy co-worker did some kind of cache clear and some other clear by accessing some setup menus. Works like a charm now and didn't lose any date. All I know is the process started by turning the phone off and then pressing both volume keys and the power button. At one point a little dead droid with "!" above his chest showed up, we both got scared.....but come to find out, it belonged at that step.

Good Luck, have faith - it's fixable

Did a factory reset and it's calmed down considerably. Got it back to most of the way I like it. Now gotta put it through its paces. Not running hot or burning through the batt. Hopefully all the headaches will be worth it....

Well, I finally got my factory reset done... Had to go through "triage" mode (I think that's what it's called) to do so... After it finished, I still have a couple issues...

Still getting very hot...
*I have since gone through the app list and disabled many apps... uninstalled some that I won't use... but disabled a lot of "bloatware"
** Still gets warmer than I am comfortable with... I mean whenit's not in use, and it's making my thigh sweat through my pocket, I think there's still a bug or two to be sorted out...

Keypad problems...
*Not as bad as it was pre-factory restore...
** Still lags/chokes up... occasionally won't type still... Hoping this will pass/may be caused by heat issue above...

Apps...
I haven't gone through and reinstalled all my prior apps yet but Facebook will still freeze/stop working still...
* I haven't gone back and added my music and photos again so I don't know of the gallery and music players work yet!

MAIN CONCERN IS TEMP
there's a lot of bloatware that came in with ICS... and you cannot disable them all... for example... 5x Backup Assistant Plus (+)... WHY!!! lol Anyway... I hope that motorola/google/verizon/whoever can get the ball rolling and get these bugs squished soon... It kinda sucks not being able to use a device for what it was made to do...

Before I did a factory reset of my phone, it was working fine before. It had its hot times. After a factory reset, I was disappointed to lose saved data but it was whatever. I now think that the phone is a bit smoother which is nice, and I haven't had ANY overheating. Today, I downloaded 90+ apps back on my phone, reduced from 110, and throughout my constant downloading of the apps that I had to replace, I had absolutely no overheating. Overall there are zero bugs for me and I am impressed. Now I gotta wait for Jelly Bean :) but at least I preordered the nexus 7 so I'll get my first taste of it soon. I would expect that this phone will eventually get the upgrade to Jelly Bean

If you are still having the heating issue post update and even post factory reset, I think it is time to call Verizon tech support. At no point in time should any phone get so hot that it is making your thigh sweat. Something is making the CPU work overtime when you aren't using the phone and that isn't normal.

You could try another factory reset to see if it does any good (tech support will tell you to do one anyway), but I think something went wrong with the download or the install and it is time to get another one.

Let them know that this started after the OTA, that you've done a factory reset and you have no apps installed. Also let them know that you've been troubleshooting it online and the problems are still there.

BTW, don't let the word refurbished scare you. Mine is refurbished at it works flawlessly. Moto actually does fully refurbish the phone unlike some other manufacturers.
