Years ago I heard the now defunct Florida Philharmonic and chorus perform this. At the end of the last movement, the orchestra stops and voices slowly fade out. They accomplished this by the chorus continuing to sing as they left the stage and walked farther away down the corridors backstage. The orchestra was left on stage and there was a period of complete silence before thunderous applause. Very effective.
