Because the bass singer sang something like this between verses: Bom ba ba bom ba bom ba bom bom ba ba bom ba ba bom ba ba dang a dang dang Ba ba ding a dong ding Blue Moon
Many decades ago I used to shoot pool with a guy that was a sessions bass singer. Did a lot of religious group recordings. His claim to fame was singing bass on Johnny Horton's hit North To Alaska. True or not.. he was a great pool player. Jay Simmons was his name. (I just googled him up. I guess it was more than just beer joint talk. Credited bass singer was not Jay but another from the same group he sang with. )
