Sandman 118 - Big L

Yes, Google is straining, and I'm discovering a lot of new music. I've listened to some of them, some I find interesting, and some, like this one, didn't get 30 seconds of skipping around to find some actual melody.

I'm just not a fan of rap. While I realize there is a skill to it, and it takes work and talent, it bores me. I don't see it as music, but poetry to rhythm. And there is nothing wrong with it. A lot of people enjoy it. When listening to non-rap music, the words are the last thing i listen to, after how the chord structure makes sense and how the various instruments interact to make it happen. So listening to rap, I get bored with the background very quickly and end up ignoring it.

But for me, the career musician, music needs all 3 elements they taught us in music classes (1) rhythm, (2) harmony - {the chords} and (3) melody. Rap has 1 and 2 but not 3.

Birds have melody without harmony, and only a few species have rhythm.

This isn't a minor rant, just a personal opinion.

119 - NCT Dream

I loved the big band sounds and the crooners from my parent's generation. But when I became a listener/consumer my father had a genuine dislike for the progression of music of my formative years. I vowed I would not be my father and turn a deaf ear to the music of my children's generation. I was not a big fan of some of the genres to follow but I found the majority of it easy enough to listen to and it seemed well constructed to the uneducated. Then came Rap. I haven't a problem with accepting it as the beat and statement of its followers but I'm now my father. The genre is just non appealing to me.
