Root sony logo hard brick?

SavageRobot

Android Expert
Hello,
I'm quite worried i have hard bricked my phone when trying to install RomAur v9.1 [ LB-UB ] - KK4.4.4- c690x - 14.4.A.0.108 - FAST-STABLE - AROMA - ONLINE
I did the wipe, went to install the ROM, it started the arom installer I think but then booted to soy logo and wont do anything else, I am worried that as it didn't let me get as far as finishing flashing that and I haven't flashed the ftf I'm knackered? Please someone tell me I am wrong and get out of this?

If you can see the Sony logo, you should be recoverable. :)

Try getting in to recovery again, if that fails, turn the device off using the panic button underneath the flap next to the SIM Card slot (you may need a paper clip). Open up flashtool, making sure it's the latest version, connect the phone to the PC in flash mode, then flash a 4.4 FTF. Once done, run through this: Easy Root Tool for various Xperia devices - XDA Forum to root, then install dual recovery and you're good to go again. (hopefully).

You have just made me happy saying that. Quick question though, it didn't go through the install properly so I am not sure if I have got 14.4 or one of the 14.3's still on. Does it matter if I flash the wrong ftf that is on there? Is there any way to know which I have on there? I can't remember if it was .681 or .757. I know there was one update available on the one I had on before 14.4 was released.
Thanks in advance

Oh yea should have mentioned, I can't get into recovery, it never vibrates when the Sony logo comes up so will have to try flashing (it did let me go into Flashmode but it soon left Flashmode after about 20-30 seconds, may be different case if I start actually flashing something in that time. I am holding off until I hear more from you, don't want to risk flashing wrong thing if there is a way to know what I need to flash or something if it will cause problems.

21/038/2014 15:38:46 - ERROR - Error parsing settingsprefs.js (The system cannot find the file specified)

Also does this error matter? I didn't get an error in 9.15 but I just updated it to 9.16 and this error comes up

Is that what displays in Flashtool on to us PC? have you tried to flash anything or does that just appear when you connect your phone?

You'll need a full ftf file btw, not one of the partial files linked in the ROM threads and it won't matter which version you choose either as the ftf wipes the phone. Do you know where to get those? I think I linked to the Xda thread in my root sticky. Once you start flashing something, Flashtool should remain active long enough for the flash to complete.

Have attached the flashtool error image. It is before I connect the phone. Havent yet tried flashing, will do as soon as I can and know what to do safely.
I think I know what you are talking about but I can't find the link at the moment, called something like "NUT complete firmware z1" or something? I have quite a few firmwares on the computer and can see that all the ones 14.3... onwards don't have the wipe options on there, do I just want to use that? Is there a way to know if I have a full one?

Yesssss!! I did it. I bit the bullet and flashed the one I showed in the attachment I had on my computer and it worked. I then managed to flash the rom first stated and am now running 4.4. Seems pretty good and quick but the camera on auto seems to let a lot of light coming through. Has anyone else had this ever? I'll keep playing anyway and see.

Great!

Sorry I wasn't around to answer your earlier questions though.

I've not noticed the camera issues you mention, I generally always use manual but I'll have a mess about when I'm out tomorrow.

No worries, thanks very much for the help anyway. I have a quick question though. The ftf I flashed to it was 14.4.A.0.108 (which i believe is the latest update)? However, my update centre and PC Companion both tell me there is an update of 14.4.A.0.108 (same number. I downloaded the firmware from the link in the first post. Any ideas why it is saying there is an update? Would it be because the one I have is a stripped version or something and it is confusing Sony? What would happen if I updated?
Also, with this new way of rooting you linked (that can root any version I believe), does that mean that busybox etc would be OK to use with no issues?

Looking at the file you flashed, it's a full version (the handset probably wouldn't have booted if it wasn't), so no idea why the update centre is telling you there's an update

If you're just looking for the stock ROM with root, you're ok to do it using the new method. No need to worry about Busybox etc.

If you want the safety net of a recovery, you should be ok to root using the new way, install recovery and be ok from there. Don't install anything busybox related though.
