How do I remove the micro sim card from a Sony Xperia E as it appears to far in its slot to access?

According to the guides I've found the SIM does just slide out. This link is for a dual-SIM version, but apart from there being 2 SIM slots rather than 1 I believe it's the same: Xperia™ E dual - User guide (English [United Kingdom]).
You may need to push down on the card to get enough friction to slide it out - I've met some SIM holders that were like that on other phones.
