SONY Xperia Z - DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE AT ALL....

SONY XPERIA Z
I pre-registered to Sony XPeria Z in February prior to its arrival to the market on 28 February.
I have been duped in, I understood soon after having my hands on the handset that it was a deception, marketing trick I fell for.

In the very first week, handset stopped working, all function tools froze, especially when I am on the phone call function buttons mutes, I could not END the call even when I removed Sim Card (unlike iPhones this phone turns itself off/on when removed/insert the simcard) the call still goes on for another 2-3 minutes then turn itself off. In other words to make a 10 SECOND its about 4-5 minutes procedure that I had to follow.

Other issues I had to faced I could list down as follows,

It sounds like you e been very unfortunate to be honest. You should really just push back on the place you got the phone from in the hope of getting a new replacement and not a refurb.

I've been using mine since release and have not encountered any of the problems you have, guess its luck of the draw really.

Every now and then, a lemon gets through.

Overall, it's all about setting your expectations. I'm generally happy with my XZ. It may have its nuances but most are non-critical to me and which things that I can live with. I worked out the battery issue by buying extra chargers for the office and car, as well as a portable battery pack for when I'm on foot.

I don't think that Sony is out to deceive people. The XZ is a decent phone... not the best... but still decent.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I agree with your criticism of the camera - Sony's processing software wreaks the images with its level of compression - but have to say that none of your other problems have surfaced with my own handset. That doesn't mean I'm disregarding your complaints though, only that I don't think they're typical.

One thing I will take issue with however:

I complained about the repairing procedures, they reminded me of I am entered into a sales contract with Sony meaning that I accept companies policy and handling procedures too, so does not give me to have my say.

That is complete and utter rubbiish. Your contract is with Vodafone, who as retailer are responsible under the Sale Of Goods Act and various other legislation for servicing warranty claims and returns as "unfit for purpose". Sony UK should be aware of that, and to suggest otherwise is duplicious. If you're unable to recieve satisfaction from Vodafone then I suggest that you take the matter to your local council's Trading Standards dept, who should be able to advise you further.

I hope you achieve a satisfactory outcome. Regardless of personal experiences, nobody like to see another Android fan unhappy.

You comment is misleading!

No such issue as you describe.

Xperia Z is my second satisfied android phone. Smooth and stable since day one, never hang till now.

It is far better than my previous Samsung S II and S III.

Xperia Z is a very good phone, a leading edge of smartphone tech. I agree with the previous comments. Glitches in the production line of EVERY smartphone tend to happen, and you just happen to be an unlucky one. My xperia z and all others from my friends did not encounter any of the problems. We all agreed that the camera is spectacular. If you are complaining about the contrasts of the camera, try turning off HDR except if you have very strong backlight or that kind of strong bright -> dark areas. Sony's camera tech is great, but just a starter in the new phone era, the quad core 4XX ppi screens. Xperia Z is the first to offer that since the iPhone 2G. There might be flaws, but bot as serious as your problems.

That's obviously not the opinion of the OP after his experience, which is what matters. ;)

This isn't a fansite where everyone is expected to agree that their chosen device is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's a user-to-user support site that people come to for advice and solutions. Let's try to concentrate on that rather than rush to the defence of a brand name.

I too am sorry to hear of the experience you have had with this process. If you have any of the SR numbers from the emails you have raised please do PM them to me so that I may escalate this internally for you.

As I understand the situation in the UK, if you are given the handset free with the contract you don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to faulty merchandise. In law the contract is for the airtime, and because the phone is a gift it is not covered in that contract. Always try and pay something toward your phone, that you it is a contract of sale in law.

That's correct and if you paid a deposit as I did (

You understand incorrectly. It's not a "gift", and the Sale Of Goods Act (and similar statutory legislation) still applies. So-called "free phone" or not, if it's demonstrably unfit for purpose within 28 days of sale then it's the retailer's responsibility, not the manufacturer's. The former can take it up with the latter on their own time and dime, but the buck stops with those who handed it over to the customer.

yes i also think you were unfortunate. i had camera problem and they repaired it within a week. then water seeped in the power button. they sent me brand new replacement within a week. the phone is brillaint especially with the update that i just got which has made the blacks really black.
