Root Soooo trying to re-root my phone

Both, and neither work properly. It's been ages since I've used BartPE or UBCD4WIN. Add the drivers is mostly straight forward. It's getting the LG tool to play nice that is the issue.

Sosaudio:
What are the chances that you have a spare partition that you can just install XP on for a few days? I ask because XP can be run for 30 days as a demo without a CD key and that would be long enough restore your phone to stock. After that, you can blow away that partition like nothing happened.

Ugh! I don't have a partition to give to it. Plus the XP disc that I have is prior to sp1. Do you think if I did an external USB drive connected my laptop with the BiOS set to boot USB first, I can steer clear of partition issues and boot loader confusion?

I don't know about windows... but linux works correctly like that with a usb drive (just gotta make sure you tell it to install grub to the usb mbr). Windows does some dumb stuff though.

I'll give my PE disc a try if I can find it...

Can someone get me an updated XP or 7 iso?

SoS, I cant seem to get my PE disc to boot on this laptop. I'm gonna keep doing some more work on it. I also sent you a PM.

@Neph,

If the LG tool won't install, cant you just use the KP500 tool to force flash the cabs? It's been awhile, but I thought you could use that tool without using the lg tool... Thought it just had to be installed or something

@Yoinx:
The KP500 would get around the fact that the LG tool tries to download the file to a non-writeable media. You still need to get the LG Tool running on the disk

@Sosaudio
SP1 is fine. Just disconnect your internal drives except for the CD drive, then install the OS to the external drive. All you need is about 10GB of space. I've run Win95 from a USB drive before, but it was slow as #$@# and the pagefile did a workout on it. If you really need a newer image, drop me a message in private. I have an OEM SP2 image, but no CD Key for it.

What ever you do, don't install CWM recovery on it's own. The root/unlock tool does it for you and I've seen RomManager do botched installs.

Alright so I since I was still in the evil world of windows, I went ahead and did the windows bat version that D2A made.

That gave me root and looks like CWM.....

About freaking time!!! I am BAAAAACCCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!!!

OK so what I had to do was install windows 7 on a hard drive and then use the completely separate from the linux drives. The updater tool updated to v8 and 4.0.4 from there I did the exploit, and now I am off to see if I can blow up the phone and get back to the world of ROMs and customizing!!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE
Rich

Just in time. Check out the PACE thread... We should have a (mostly?) functioning KitKat any day now!

Believe it or not, I may have a key.....OOPS no I don't must have thrown the disk away, sorry

LOL I found a key thanks tho

Good morning to all!! Been busy lately, son got married, etc.

Have a question, and since this thread is talking about rooting, thought this would be a good place. I've been away for a while, and yesterday, decided to use the LG Tool to bring my phone back to stock and start over. I've done this many times, but this is the first time that I did it, and my software version is now VS920ZV9 . Version 9? When did that happen? Thanks!

That's very odd considering I just did this not long ago as you can see and I am pretty sure it was version 8

We are pleased to announce the software upgrade to VS920ZV9 is now available for the LG Spectrum. This software upgrade includes important enhancements to improve performance.

Is it a different version of android? I'll bet they just changed some apps.. if it's still ics, use the ics root.

Yep, V9 appears to be the new official version. Hopefully it still roots the same. I'll pick the file apart later this weekend.

LOL! Neph, do you have a dropbox that you can store that cab and bin in? You will probably save the day later when VZW decides to hide it. My suggestion is to snatch it up quick make sure if we need it for dissection for root or unroot we have it

Good morning NEPH. I was bringing my phone back to stock when I got the download. I used the PWNAGE tool on it before I noticed the version was V9, the tool worked just fine, as usual. Probably as you said, just app changes.

I have copies of all the cab files on my server as a backup in case anything happens. I just don't share the links as I'm not sure the legal area they fall into. If we ever got locked out of root, I'd find a way to share them, even if it meant using throw away hosting options.

Thanks for that info Klembo. I'm glad we don't have to find a new root method.

OK, so I went through the update zip and here's what V9 is.

App updates
Framework updates
A new radio
No driver updates
Little to no kernel updates

It may be worth ripping the new basebands, but I'd be interesting to hear what stock people have to say about the update first.

Edit: And it's still android 4.0.4, so they most likely just closed the master key exploit with the framework updates.
