Root sorry... another root question :/

okay so i grasp somewhat of the concept of what rooting is, just lets you have more control

my question is about roms and kernals, what exactly are they, i think a rom is just a different kind of software to run your phone on right? but kernals i have no clue

im asking because i plan on rooting eventually, to root, i need a windows right and i just download the software and then it pretty much roots it for me, then from there, what do i do with ROMs or kernals and all that, and in your opinion what is the best to use, im sure there are different roms for different uses, but any information at all would be much appreciated

My suggestion would be jump on XDA Developers and spend a couple of weeks reading through all the "how to root" threads you can find. Its a fairly straight forward process, but it takes a little time to learn it and get comfortable with it.

You also need to be pretty confident/comfortable about working with computer software. The first few times you load different ROMs it can be a little nerve-wracking to wait for the phone to reboot.
