ive been wondering about the wi-fi capabilities of the phone, is the wi-fi there for browsing the internet, or will it act as a signal for making and recieving phone calls?

I'm pretty sure its just for browsing the internet. I mean if you use voip then your not using minutes from Verizon, maybe I'm wrong but wouldn't Verizon want you to use minutes?

I think the OP was asking about straight making calls. Not a VOIP client or anything.

So, for my understanding of the OP: No, the Wi-Fi is not for making calls. It's strictly for data usage. And VOIP, being data, would work over Wi-Fi. Just not the actual voice part of the phone.

ty for that, maybe there is a VOIP app on the marketplace for cheap, my town is right on the edge of the verizon coverage area, so depending on where i stand in the house, my signal is hit or miss

From what I've heard (There are some good quotes on your internets from VZW corporate execs explaining their new-found wisdom.), Verizon has figured out that they make money off of their customer's plans... that how much we use the network is not important as long as we're buying a plan for it.

Verizon has long known that their best strategy for success and growth is to have a great network, advertize the heck out of it and have happy customers that don't eat up support staff time and will actually evangelize for them.

Since you've bought the phone, since you've bought the plan they don't care what you do with your phone when you're not using their network.

phone $200 + setup fee $35 + voice $45*24 + data $30*24 - ne2 $50 = $1,985.00 That $50 is "New Every 2" and they only pay out that if they get to keep you as a customer in 2 years (some get $100 ne2).
