Android Sound txt msg

Is there a way to get text message to sound (notification) on every text message coming in with Android 5.0?
Since I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0, I only get notification sound on the first text message coming in. Once I start replying and I'm actively chatting with that person, all other replies I receive are silent.
this is a problem for me when people I chat with take a long time to reply and I put the phone down. I forget to go check for the next reply. I would like a sound notification to alert me something new is there even if I'm positioned on the chat window.
Please advise.
Thanks
