Sound quality issues

I have a samsung galaxy s3 running jellybean 4.3 and of the MANY problems Ive been having lately the one thats driving me crazy is something that just started happening. I bought a pair of beats by dre solo hd headphones and the sound quality is inconsistent. For the most part they sound really good and the bass is incredible, but there are other times when the volume isnt as loud as it should be and there is like no bass. I listen to spotify and have standard Music FX but I also have an equalizer app that I've had forever and never had any problems with. When they're not working correctly I can stil adjust all the eq's and settings...but even with the bass boost all the way up they still dont sound right. I've also noticed that when things aren't working correctly I hear crackling when the music is of when I open and close spotify and the equalizer app? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First try a different set of headphones, even cheap earbuds. Same problems? Then it might be the 4.3 update. No problems? Have the Beats replaced.

I connected my klipsch earbuds (that I never had any problems with) and I was still having the same problems. All of this has been happening since the moment I hooked the beats headphones up? When I hook them up to anything else they sound awesome. Ive been thinking about it and there is one thing about the beats that I didnt mention. The cable has an inline remote / mic and it is pretty much specifically designed for apple devices. Only a few of its functions work on android devices. Could this possibly be the source of my problems? Any input would be great.
