Help Sound Quality meh!

VWROOM

Lurker
I was looking for some answers about the sound quality of the Atrix 2 and this is where I ended up. ((Hello new here!)) Since I did not like what I heard I wonder if there are other options etc. Here is what I am comparing to and listening to:

Reference system: Gateway P 7805u with sound processing done by 1st gen. Creative X-Fi notebook sound card ( all effects OFF! ONLY! sound processing )
Also satisfied with: Sansa Fuze ( EQ. flat effects OFF! )
Listening on: Sony MDR 7509HD
Listening to: Tron Legacy Reconfigured soundtrack in FLAC
ATRIX 2: Power Amp ( All flat and OFF )

Sound quality is quite muddy and just not as defined. It seems that the song is still compressed in some way and not a true loseless. I was hoping on the Atrix becoming my main audio player esp. with car dock, but it seems that I have to look for a separate player. WinAmp Pro offers FLAC support but its 4.99 and not even sure if there is a sound issue. Wonder if its even software or hardware issue.
Anyone out there listened to other players than PowerAmp?
Is there a way to get audio out, preamp out etc?

Thanks

I've tried several different players w/the A2 and have not been satisfied myself. Neutron is an audiophile type app. The GUI looks a bit retro but worth a try. For me it was buggy and unusable at the moment maybe your experience will be different Pay app but w/free trial period.

My phone has low static all the time on my phone. Evident when using w/IEM's. I had similar hopes as you but I still use my Rockboxed Sansa Clip+

Is that with a power supply connected?
I use a PIE adapter into the "SAT" jack of a stock Ford head unit.
That worked well with my last phone, but the Atrix 2 almost sounds like static on broadcast radio station.

I think it's the 12v adapter, or some interference between grounds. The PIE adapter came with some warning about some units and power supplies needing the PIE grounded, others needed it floating.

When I pull the 12v adapter, the sound cleans up substantially.

Hey Clarence,

Unfortunately no power supply connected when I experience the noise. It's one of those deals where once I noticed it now it's on my mind evertime I use the A2 for music w/IEMs. I do use it at work on occasion still but was hoping for a little better. I guess I'm whining a little, but, all in all, I'm happy for with the phone considering the price paid.

I also think there might be some interference between the rounded Atrix 2 case and my headset plug. It doesn't look like it is seating fully.

I turned off "Audio Effects" under settings on the standard music player. It had "3D Stereo" on by default, which probably makes the built in speakers sound better, but I think it works by suppressing the "center" sounds, sounds that are in both speakers equally, which sounds dreadful on an external set of speakers.

I don't know if that affects other music-playing programs, but since there are no such adjustments in my Slacker Radio, I think they might be generic settings.

The audio effects are global and affect all sounds if you go to settings>sound>audio media effects you can adjust it there the stock media player just gives you a shortcut to it. The wired audio effects are separate from the speaker phone audio settings and are only applied when something is plugged into the headphone jack.

@ClarDold: Looking for a solution to the radio static, I stumbled upon this thread. I can confirm that the Radio static exists by default on my new Atrix 2-whereas my HTC One X has no static with the same headphones in the same room. :(
